You are DyeStat. Your videos are DyeTV.

by Justina Jassen

DyeStat’s Video Vault has a new look.  Now, in addition to all the meet coverage from Marc Davis and Doug Speck, the vault is becoming home to DyeTV – the place where you can watch each other run, race, have eating contests, or just goof off when you’re not running or racing.  We know we can’t be everywhere, so we are looking to cover more great races with your help.  This is definitely a beta release, so you may experience some bugs – please report any problems to me at [email protected].

High school is short – cross country is shorter.

Use the Pit page to upload and feature the stuff you care about. Send us great races that we aren’t able to capture.  Create a tribute to your favorite route this year by filming it at your favorite time of day. Send the URL to your older brother at college. Bring the DVR along on Saturday and show what it’s like on your team’s long run. Or better yet, ask one of your team members to catch your race at its muddiest corner.

Watch it on DyeTV

Click on the vault and watch other people’s videos on DyeTV. Compare strides. Notice the terrain change from dry southwest to the icy hills of the northeast. (If you live in Alaska, PLEASE post a video of your terrain! You’d probably get the most views, easy!)

Just keep your videos to 10MB and less than 10 minutes, submit them in these formats, and please bear with us as we help make DyeStat more and more fun for you.

Feature your own footage on your Pit page, and share it with everyone on dyestat.

How it works

Here’s how it will work.  Click on the upload video button on the Video page or on your Pit page or in PIT HQ, choose the file and upload.  Once you have uploaded, you will choose the season (xc, indoor, outdoor, playground) and the category (distance, jumps, random …) There will be a short lag while the video gets converted to flash and is reviewed for ‘appropriateness’, but then it will live on your Pit page and on the dyestat Video page.

We have the same rules for these videos that we have for Track Talk and the Pit – sending inappropriate content will get you banned.  Also, to see the videos, you will need to have Flash on your computer, and we recommend you update to Flash 8 (you’ll need it for the upcoming webcast of NTN anyhow – more on that in the coming weeks)

This system requires a unique user name to identify each video, so you have to be a Pit member to upload videos.  If you are not a Pit member, you will be offered the chance to join – the process is quick, once you activate your confirmation email, you will be ready to go.  Each video you upload will have an unique url so you can link to it from myspace or track talk, email it to friends and family …. It’s a great way to share content and help cover the sport.

DyeTV supports the following files:

QuickTime (.mov, .qt, .mp4, .3gp)
MPEG (.mpg, .mpeg, .mp2)
Windows Media (.wmv)
AVI (.avi)
DV (.dv)

Are you in The Pit?
TinaJ tells why you should be

by Justina (TinaJ) Jassen

Are you in the PIT? Good. Now is the time to use it.

Not yet? Sign up today.
Build your page now on The Pit

Cross Country 2006 is starting. You’ve trained all summer. Now is the time to use the PIT to let the world know exactly what you intend to do with your running this season. Set some goals! Talk some smack. (Nice smack.) Track down your old rivals – and find new ones. Even if they’re in Pennsylvania and you’re in Texas The Pit allows you to search by State, by City, by State or by Event. Have you checked lately to see who you already know, or who you might want to meet?

The Pit can become a really cool part of Dyestat, but only if everyone really starts using it. We are working on making it better and adding some of the features that you have asked for, but here’s some stuff that is already easy to do:

  • Use the Pit to motivate yourself to think big. The world of high school running is pretty big. Look around. Who’s going to beat you?
  • Blog your season. Let everyone know how your training is going and what happens at your meets -- keep a record of your season, how it felt and how it happened.
  • Don’t like to write? Put up the coolest pictures. Make sure you capture the races, bus rides and mudbaths that make XC, well . . . XC. Post them on the Pit and make a photo chronicle of your season.
  • Ask for feedback. Give someone credit for a great race. The Pit is a new way for Dyestat members to network, show off, and help other people. Its your site, folks – make it live!
  • Get your team together on the Pit. Send messages, read each other’s blogs, post pics of your training grounds and pasta parties. Show how your team celebrates, how you win and how you lose. If you lose.
Your Pit page is yours to use. So use it to help achieve your goals, and good luck this Cross Country season from DyeStat!

Welcome to the new DyeStat

We’ve moved things around and added some features, but you’ll be happy to know that all of the old content still exists somewhere on the new site. Read About DyeStat 5.0

Some new features to check out:

RANKINGS

DyeStat Elite is now an interactive list. Go to the Rankings page and select DyeStat Elite.

  • Use the pulldowns on the left of the page to select a season and an event, and then view the top times in the nation.
  • Click on “Class” to sort the results by grad year, and you’ll see the fastest times for each class.  Click “State” and you’ll find the top times in any region.

We’ve loaded the results from the 2005 Outdoor season; 2006 Indoor times will be up by this weekend.

Within a few days, we’ll introduce DyeStat Universal, a searchable database of thousands of track and field results from meets around the country.  Over the next few months, this database will grow to include thousands and thousands of marks.

With our new ranking calculator, you’ll be able to enter your own times, and see how they stack up against the rest of the nation. Are you in the top 90% for your event?  For your class? You’ll find out.

Here’s how to find old content:

News and results: From the home page, click on US. You’ll see links to the old Page 1 Archives, and to the US New Index. From there you can still find all the meets, photos and results that have ever been on DyeStat.
States/Regions:  Click on States, and then choose your region. On the region landing page, you’ll find links to old state and regional news.
Rankings: Click on Rankings. At the bottom of the page, you’ll see links to the old index of DyeStat rankings.
Videos: Click on videos, then scroll down to Recent Featured Meets. At the bottom of the list is a link to an archive of past meets.
