SOUTH DAKOTA
Alcoa Relays @ Yankton, 4/27/06

  Strong distance races higlighted the girl's division at the Alcoa Relays, with the Yankton duo of Ashley Storm (4:59.30) and Betsy Bies (4:59.56) breaking 5:00 in the 1600, and Bies taking the 3200 in 11:02.48, with team mate Tiffany Leader running 11:22.31 in second abd Justein Zens (Brandon Valley) third at 11:31.53.  Mary Margaret Nelson (O' Gorman, Sioux Falls) ran 2:18.13 to win the 800, with Kuchta second at 2:21.81.
    Heather Wollman (Bridgewater-Emer) was the sprint star, winning the 100 (12.34) and 400 (58.06) by wide margins, and taking second in the 200 (25.62) to Alicia Brown (Vermillion 25.25).  Vermillion's Nicole Orr highlighted the hurdles, winning the 300H in 46.78 over Brigette Gross (47.09 Huron).  Brandon Valley won the 4 x 1 (50.96) and 4 x 2 (1:46.81) in solid fashion, while Huron won the 4 x 400 (4:07.90 over Vermillion's 4:09.96) and Sprint Medley (4;18.93).  Yankton cruised to a 10:03.78 4 x 800 win
      Huron showed good jump strength with Brigette Gross adding an 11-0 PV victory to her hurdles triumph (team mate Janelle Stickler second at 10-6), and Tamiko Kopfmann jumped 17-7 to win the long jump with Bethany Gross second (17-1.5) for another Huron 1-2.  Yankon's Lindsay Cameron won the TJ at 34-1.5, and Jane Swenson (Brandon Valley) took the shot (36.-1.5) and disc (129-2 over Catherine Anthony of Dakota Valley 128-7).
    Jon Williams (Yankton) turned in the best boy's mark, cruising at 9:39.58 3200 to win from a good field with Rob Gregoire (Irene-Wakonda 9:53.46) and Brad Anderson (Yankton 9:54.83) also under 10.  Sean Fitzsimmons (Yankton) won the 1600 in 4:31.30 in a close race with Greg Beesley (Brandon Valley 4;31.77), while Ty Dannenbring (Yankton) won the 800 in 2:00.27.
    Corey Gross (Brandon Valley) dominted the hurdle fields, winning in 15.03 for the 110H and 39.37 for the 300H.  Ryan Powell (Vermillion) ran 51.65 for a solid 400 win. Troy Beekman (Huron) put up the best field mark with a 13-6 PV win.

 

MINNESOTA
  Lakeville North Invite 4/21/06

    Elizabeth Yetzer (Lakeville North) and Bria Wetsch (Holy Family Catholic, Chaska) went at it in the 1600 at the Lakeville North, with predictably outstanding results, Yetzer edging Wetsch 4:15.08 to 4:52.28.  Lakeville North also scored wins with Laura Roach (2:24.22 800) and a 10:01.51 4 x 800.  Claire Guidinger (Winona) ran 11;53.21 to win the 3200.  Top field marks were turned in by Rosa Gauthier-Culnane (St. Louis Park 17-8.5 LJ) and LaiShema Hampton (St. Louis Park 40-11 SP.  Lakeville North won the girl's team title.
    Elliot Heath (Winona) scored an outstanding distance double, winning the 1600 at 4:20.64 from Tom Burke (Edina 4:25.68) with three others under 4:30, and taking the 3200 (9:33.44) with Burke again second (9:39.68).  Tyler King (Lakeville North) won the 800 at 2;01.07, and Robie Wilson (Chaska) turned in wins at 21-3.5/ 42-10.5 for the LJ/ TJ.  EJ Buschmann (Chaska) won the HJ at 6-5 over Joe Westlin (St. Louis Park 6-4).

Dean Houdek True Team Boys, Park HS, Cottage Grove 10/22/06
   Tim Branigan (4:24.83/ 9:30.56)and Tian Woodbury (4:32.17/ 9:48.36) gave team champ Roseville a nice 1-2 punch in the 1600/3200 at the Dean Houdek meet.  Other top marks included a 13-6 PV win for Nick Malotke (Woodbury), a 6-2 HJ win for Jason Badger (Park) and a 54-4/ 153-6 SP./ DT double for Derek Peterson (Forest Lake).  Second in the shot went to Tyler Klenhuizen (53-2), also of Forest Lake.

KANSAS
Maize Invitational @ Maize HS, 4/27/06

  Ashlynn Bedell (Maize) had the best girl's marks, winning the 400 handily in 58.85 and taking the 300H in 46.30.  Elizabeth Marsh (Wichita East) cruised to a 2:29.00 to easily win the 800.
  Jake Steicklein (Maize won the 800 in 2:01.60 to highlight boy's competition.  Jacob Breth (Bishop Carroll, Wichita) won the disc at 155-0.5, and Adam Capps (Bishop Carroll, Wichita) won the JT at 186-9.5, as many teams rested or ran runner's in off events after the KU Relays.

DeSoto Invitational, 4/26/06
    Cold and rainy weather hindered marks at the DeSoto Invitational.  Gardner-Edgerton's Calli George stepped down from her usual distance events to win the 400 in 61.48, and ran on a 10:08.72 4 x 800 winner (Mill Valley, Shawnee second at 10:13.75).  Jackie Goleman (DeSoto) won the HJ at 5-2 and the 100H at 17.06.  Justin Woods (Mill Valley, Shawnee) won the boy's 100 (11.20) and 200 (22.74) by wide margins, with Ethan Holloway (Olathe Northwest 50.54) doing the same in the 400.  Luke Laird (Gardner-Edgerton) won the JT by almost 40 feet, throwing 184-7.

Winnetonka Invitational, Kansas City MO 4/25/06

  Oak Park swept to a victory in the boy's division, keyed by Will Hansen's distance double (4;37.60/ 10:16.29.) and a strong 8:02.01 4 x 800 win.   Ronnell Jones, (Ruskin, Kansas City) tossed a nice 59-3 SP/ 151-4 DT double win.
  Raytown South edged a tight pack for the girl's title, with Nichole Manning (Winnetonka, Kansas City) winning the pole vault at 11-3.
