Emporia State Relays, Emporia 3/29/06
Threatened bad weather forced the ESU Relays to run an acclerated schedule.  But kudos to ESU Coach Dave Harris, who kept the meet on schedule and got all the events in before the weather arrived.
Olathe East swept to victories in both the boys and girls divisions.  The Hawks won six girls events and eight boys events.  East scored 171 points in the girls division, with Independent, Wichita second (116), and 165 in the boys with Emporia (129) second.
Danielle McCray led Olathe East, winning the SP at 42-10.75, and the TJ at 35-9.  Jennie Ruck collected four medals for East, running on winning 4 x 100 (51.1 over Independent's 51.2), and Sprint Medley (4:41.6) relays, and winning silvers on the 4 x 200 (1:51.1 to Independent's 1:50.9) and 4 x 400 (4:21.5 to Ruskin, Kansas City MO's 4:18.7).  Kortney Schippers won two relay golds, leading off East's Distance Medley (14:08.3) and anchoring the sprint medley.  Other top marks included Michaela Reynolds (Emporia) winning the 3200 (11:52.0) in impressive fashion despite strong winds, and Melissa Manda (Independent) throwing the javelin 125-5 with terrilby unfavorable winds.
Dee Bell led the East boy's effort, winning the 100 in 10.6, backing up the 10.5 he ran last week at the East Quadrangular.  Bell, last year's 6A 100 runner-up, edged Richard Cairns (Independent 10.6) and Evan Pierson (Olathe South 10.6) in a hot 100.  Sklyer Delmott (Emporia) cruised to victory in the 3200 at 9:57.3, while Olathe South (44.1/ 1:35.4) held off cross-town rival East (44.2/ 1:35.8) in the 4 x 1 and 4 x 200.  East took the 4 x 400 (3:34.8) and Sprint Medley (3:51.3) relays, and got a 6-0 HJ win from Ross Philbrick.  Other good jump marks were turned in by Tony Bryant (Olathe South 21-7 LJ) and Kyle Steuber (Olathe East 44-3.5 TJ).
