CLASS A MEET (March 27) - Allison Eckert of Sioux Falls (S.D.) Roosevelt was selected the girls’ MVP and Quincy Christie of Pierre (S.D.) and Austin Vandeberg of Sioux Falls (S.D.) Lincoln were named the boys’ MVPs in the Class A Division of the Dan Lennon Invitational at the DakotaDome on Monday.

The Lennon Meet, which was started in the late 1940s, is annually hosted by The University of South Dakota Track and Field program. A total of four records (all in the girls division) were set on Monday. Today, USD presented Rich Hansen of Sioux Falls, S.D., with the Dan Lennon Award. Glen Nelson of Sioux Falls, S.D, will be honored with a Lennon Award during the Class B competition on Tuesday.

Eckert was part of two records and picked up three overall wins at the Dan Lennon meet. She set an individual record in the 1,600 meter run with a clocking of 4:55.37, cracking the previous mark of 4:55.92 set by Ramsay Kavan of Yankton (S.D.) in 2005. She was also part of the record-setting sprint medley relay, which established a record with a clocking of 4:14.17 (old mark, Sioux Falls Roosevelt, 2005) and was a member of the winning 4x400 meter relay in 4:16.07.

On the boys’ side, Quincy Christie of Pierre, S.D.; and Austin Vandeberg of Sioux Falls (S.D.) Lincoln each won two events. Christie captured the 60-meter dash title in 7.03 and also won the long jump at 21’02.25. Vandeberg won the 800 meter run in 2:02.06 and captured the 1,600 meter run in 4:28.35.

CLASS B MEET (March 28) – Amy Gallagher of Neligh-Oakdale (Neb.) and Robert Gregoire of Wakonda were selected the MVPs in the Class B Division of the Dan Lennon B High School Track & Field Meet which was held at the DakotaDome on Tuesday. More than 900 student-athletes from area high schools competed in the event which was hosted by The University of South Dakota Track and Field program. Glen Nelson, a former track coach at Elk Point, S.D., and now living in Sioux Falls, S.D., was presented with the Dan Lennon Award during the meet.

Gallagher was named the girls’ MVP after winning the long jump (16’08), finishing third in the 400 meter dash (1:04.48) and taking sixth in the 60 meter dash (8.39). Gallagher won her fourth straight long jump title at the Lennon Invitational. Gregoire was picked as the boys’ MVP by winning the 1,600-meter run (4:49.31) and defending his 3,200 meter run title (10:13.33). He won the 1,600 meter by nearly 13 seconds over the nearest competitor. He also captured the 3,200 meter run by more than 45 seconds over the second-place finisher.

There was one record set today in the boys’ 60 meter dash. Kaleb Christensen of Columbus (Neb.) Lakeview recorded a 7.25 in the semifinals of the 60-meter dash to break the mark of Bumper Pickner of Arlington, S.D., who had a 7.33 in 2005. Christensen won the title with a 7.32 clocking in the finals today.
