the New York Armory is a record setting place
With high banks and the latest Mondo surface, the New York Armory lays claim to the fastest indoor track in the world. Whether that's true or not, every year sees a stream of national high school records set at the Armory. This all started in 1920, when Harry Helme of Buffalo ran 2 miles in 9:34.6 for a national record. After 1967, there was a long hiatus as the Armory deteriorated into a homeless center. Then came the revival of the Armory in 1990s, and in the year 2000 the records returned with a rush.

Junior Women - US team is 4th
Amber Harper's 24th place leads USA to 4th as a team. Other US runners: Allison Costello 30, Amanda Trotter 31, Jenny Barringer 35, Kathleen Trotter 36, and Brittany Brockman 62. Jenny Barringer, just a junior in high school (Oviedo FL), took it out hard as is her custom and was out in front of the US pack for much of the race. Barringer fell back late, but she told John Nepolitan that her first trip outside the US was "just a great experience." Jr Women results and more pix.
