Weekend Meets!!! - Collage below - Bill Leung at Long Beach Millikan Invitational

Fastback Challenge - Mt. SAC - 1.92 mile course (just like the old days prior to two miles brought back some familiarity with Mt. SAC times, especially on the Girls' side, where two miles hung on a bit longer!). Anyway, it was a Thousand Oaks day, with Ryan Ketcham nearly getting under 10:00 on a course with two huge hills (switchbacks and poop-out - Reservoir was left out) at 10:02. Whitney McDonald of the Lancers was the only girl under 12:00 with her 11:40 race win. Grant Nunnally (Woodcrest Christian, Riverside), leader of the highly ranked Div V team, was 10:16 to win his race, with Arroyo super soph Luis Medina a 10:12 win!! Brian Baker (Beaumont) impressed with a 10:17. The Thousand Oaks girls took all the Girls' contests, with Alyson Fletcher 12:12 in her event win - Results

Bosco Tech Invitational - Southern Section - Legg Lake - Division I power Loyola (Los Angeles) averaged a fine 15:38 per runner to ease ahead of St. John Bosco, a surprise this Fall with frosh Jonathan Batres 15:51 for one of the day's quickest clockings in taking his contest. Mark Matusak (Loyola) has come out charging, with his 15:10 "fastest of the day." Maranatha's girls, led by Laura Myers 17:54 win by over a minute at the senior level, a fine 98:15 team time bolstered by Lizzy Thompson's 19:28 clocking. Results

Kingsburg Early Season Invitational - Very warm day in the Central Valley had Kyle Alcorn (Buchanan, Clovis), State 3200 Champ in track, comment on the conditions as a factor in his not achieving a quicker time than his 9:53 "fastest of day" clocking to take the senior Boys contest by some 100 meters. Jessica Laslovich (Buchanan) had the day's quickest Girls' clocking, with her 11:46 to take the Girls Junior contest by a very comfortable margin. - Results

Fresno Invitational - College and Community College - Chico State won the sweepstakes award after both the men and women upset 3rd ranked (nationally) UC Davis squads to finish first and second respectively in their races. Race conditions were HOT! Mt. SAC (Men) and Orange Coast (Women) took the Community College affairs - Results - College/University - Community College

Lagoon Valley Classic - Sac Joaquin - A continually improving Oakmont (Roseville) team emerged as Team Winners on both the Varsity Boys and Girls Side, with the Boys win especially impressive over a Madera group that had their way against all-comers in previous weekend travels around the state! Dan Napieralski (Oakmont) individually a 40 meter win over Wolhan Ovalle of the host team, Vacaville, and Jeff Lease (Lincoln, Stockton). Megan Cearly (Woodland), not ranked locally during the preseason, impressed with her individual win, cruising 19:36 for a comfortable win over Erin Wachter (Cordova, Rancho Cordova). - Results - Pictures - More Pictures

Laguna Hills Invitational - Huge Southern Section Affair - David Napper (Cypress) had to wait an hour for his race while meet management dealt with heat problems with other runners, but it did not slow the Orange County star a bit, as he outkicked Juan Robles (Valencia, Placentia) for the day's quickest clocking a 14:53 (Robles 15:07). Michael Hadden (Woodbridge) clocked 14:59 in his race. Battle of top teams - Orange HS surprisingly the day's quickest boys' team clocking with 79:20. Newcomer to the prep scene, Erica Sahli (Villa Park) 18:19 for day's quickest Girls Clocking!! - Top Indivdiuals - Team Results - Races 1-11 - Races 12-23

Morro Bay Invitational - Southern Section - State 800 placer Duane Solomon (Cabrillo, Lompoc) stretches out for a win here, with Alexandra Forest (Dos Pueblos, Goleta) taking the Girls contest - Results

Colton Swarm - (Southern Section - Colton HS) - Two of State's Best Boys hook up, with Mike Poe (Etiwanda) sizzling to a 15:02, Mohamed Trafeh (Duarte) right behind in 15:10 in 100 plus degree weather! Christina Olivas a Bloomington Sophomore, takes the girls overall in 18:52 - Results

Ed Sias Invitational - Tom Peterson (Beyer, Modesto) takes Varsity Boys Individual race over Mitchell Stees (College Park) 10:24-10:27 with San Ramon 95-142 winners over Silver Creek. DyeStatCal Female Athlete of Week for last week Ciara Viehweg (St. Ignatius, San Francisco) wins over Lindsay Allen (College Park) 12:10-12:14, with St. Francis (Sacramento) taking Girls Team title (below picture Joe Hartman of the champs!!!) - Link to Results (Now Complete)

Aztec Invitational - Collegiate - Arkansas Women (with help from San Lorenzo Valley's Shiloh Whiting and Agoura's Laura Jakosky) and Northern Arizona Men (with Travis Laird from San Marcos HS assisting) take Team wins - big meet - Results

Las Vegas Invitational - Fountain Valley, led by Bethany Nickless and her individual win, take down #16 ranked in entire U.S. Columbia HS (E. Greenbush, NY) with 87-98 win over 2.5 miles - Rubidoux, Rancho Buena Vista, and Fountain Valley go 1-2-3 in the Boys' team contest with some good competition - Wow!! - Results -

University of San Francisco Invitational - Sacramento State takes Women's competition with Allegra Porter (St. Mary's College) individual winner at 16:17 - Cal takes Sac State 46-50 Men's race - Marty Conrad and Gilliat Ghebrey 1-2 - Results

Millikan Invitational - Harwell Park - Long Beach - SS - There was some good racing in this "by-grade" Southern Section affair. In the Boys Senior contest, Jose Casillas (Downey) took Big Bear's Craig Hall and his teammage Patrick Fitzgerald 15:26-15:32-15:47 in the Senior race, with improved Lister Yu of Mark Keppel (Alhambra) 15:53 in the Junior Boys race. Viking Opener - Spring Lake Park - Santa Rosa - Montomgery show once again!!! - Girls dominate "By-grade" and Open contest with three in at least top seven in each of those (three score in this meet) Natalie White (Oak Ridge, El Dorado Hills - Sac Joaquin) day's quickest at 11:30 to nip Michelle Gallagher (Sacred Heart Cathedral) 11:33. Super soph Jake Schmitt (Redwood, Larkspur) 10:11 for day's quickest in his soph contest - JK Withers (Cardinal Newman) 10:20 Jr race winner, with Ruben Mora-Roman (Analy) Senior winner at 10:23. Liza takes her 18:48 CR for rolling 3.1 miles down to 17:57, with Erick his 15:47 from last year down to 15:36!!! Murrieta Valley Girls stunning 30 points (against 30 teams in same race) with 95:06 amazing team time (19:01 average for 5000 meters rolling). National recognition coming up!!!
