Lagoon Valley Classic - Sac Joaquin Section Sat 9/14/02

Some solid teams will come into the Vacaville area for the Lagoon Valley Classic this Saturday. On the Boys’ side, recently emerging power Madera will roll in against area teams. Fine juniors Benny Madrigal and Claudio Moreno lead the Central Section power. The Sac Joaquin area highly ranked Davis HS Boys’ group hopes to compete well against Madera and area rivals Oakmont and Lincoln of Stockton, with the latter hot off a win at the Edison (Stockton) meet. The Blue Devils of Davis feature Will Moroski and super soph Thad Sieracki, with Oakmont having Dan Napieralski (2nd), Kevin Newton (6th), and Mike Wells (10th) finish in the top group at last week’s Rocklin Meet. Lincoln, meanwhile, was scoring a minuscule 39 in dominating at the Edison Invite, with Jeff Lease and Marty Jellin going 1-3 in the meet there! Wolhan Ovalle of Vacaville is a highly rated area individual, with Tino Rodriguez (St. Mary’s, Berkeley) highly thought of in the NCS.
On the Girls’ side hosts Vacaville are ranked third in the Section preseason, wtih Tiffany Hall and Tamar Gruwell highly ranked as individuals. Davis, Woodland, with super Melissa Garcia leading, and Sheldon, with leader Kristen Yee hot off a Lincoln (Stockton) Invite win, will be solid. Oakmont was third, ahead of Davis at the Granite Bay Meet, with Michelle Born 4th at Rocklin a week ago! Karlyn Nieland (Tokay, Lodi) was runner-up at the Edison Meet. Gabi Rios-Sotelo (St. Mary’s, Berkeley) was 5:06 1600 and 11:12 3200 in Track last year!
