Bronco Invitational - Southern Section - Prado Dam 9/14/02 - Preview

Bronco High School Cross-Country Invitational - Prado Dam - Sat 9/14/02
Thanks to Jim Sackett Cal Poly/Pomona for the info

The “Inland Empire,” one of the nations’ fastest growing areas, generally east of Los Angeles into San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, has some super high school running programs, with a number in attendance at the Bronco Invite this weekend at Prado Dam. Other good teams from around the Southern Section will attend. The Meet is run with all the Varsity teams in one race, with scores spilling out by division, so the best all run against the best!!!

The Boys lead off with the defending State Division I Champ, Erik Maldonado (Don Lugo, Chino) who is helping bring along a young squad that has real potential. Don Lugo and Maldonado will run right into some super groups. Barstow, defending State Division III Champs, have given the sense they are ready to roll with Adam Rodriguez returning as a State Top Ten Finisher at his level. Murrieta Valley is strong, with Kellen Acosta ranked among the state’s top Division I athletes. La Sierra (Riverside) has 4:17 1600 runner Matt Kern headlining a highly ranked State Div II squad. Katella (Anaheim) is led by super junior Juan Escalante, with Corona and Rancho Cucamonga teams with potential.

On the Girls’ side the competition will be just as hot! Liza Pasciuto is one of the nation’s best, and if rumors of a super frosh in the Murrieta program this year, Murrieta Valley will be ranked nationally before the year is over. Ayala (Chino Hills) has awesome recent tradition, with Whitney Patton leading a squad ranked #3 Statewide behind Murrieta’s #2 Div I listing!!! Ashley Jones and 5:04 1600 star Danielle Padilla lead a good Westlake (Westlake Village) squad that will be here. Brea and a potentially strong Corona group will be in the mix.
