Viking Opener - Montgomery
HS (Santa Rosa) sponsored
Thanks to Josh Dorris for information
A group of mostly NCS schools will gather this weekend for the Viking
Opener, with the combining of some highly ranked local schools sure to
provide some great cross-country action!
The Girls contest will once again be highlighted by another titanic struggle
between Maria Carrillo and Montgomery High’s from Santa Rosa, with
the highly ranked and powerful teams renewing their rivalry from a week
ago at the Rancho Cotate Invite where the Montgomery girls were overpowering,
taking 5 of the top 8 places. Amy Robinson will be trying to pull the
MC pack up through the Montgomery group, with the Kims (Conley and Handel)
and Carina Hendricks a tough trio from Montgomery keying off Robinson
up-front! Individual Rancho Cotate winner Phyllis Blanchard, a nearly
40 second winner at her school’s Invite in a time that put her in
very select all-time territory will challenge all to go with her once
again. Michelle Gallagher (Sacred Heart Cathedral, San Francisco), a 10:53.91
3200 star, Ashton LeSiuer (Casa Grande), a 5:01.53 1600 runner in track,
Bethany Gardner (Del Oro, Loomis), and Kelly Rogers (Healdsburg) will
add to the individual depth here. Natalie White (Oak Ridge, El Dorado
Hills) was 5:03.35 for 1600m in track season, with Corinne Roberts (Alameda)
2:14 800 from track, and Stephanie Farac (Terra Linda, San Rafael) highly
thought of locally. Castro Valley has a fine Girls group, with Petaluma
and Ursuline (Santa Rosa) strong varsities.
On the Boys’ side, Redwood (Larkspur), led by super soph Jake Schmitt
(9:33.97 3200 as frosh!), will roll into challenge Montgomery and Santa
Rosa. Matt Finch and KC Cody from Montgomery were 1-2 last week at Rancho
Cotate, with Eddy McFarlin Valley hoping to take the Santa Rosa pack up
to challenge the top two here! Cardinal Newman (Santa Rosa) continues
to improve, with super junior J.K. Withers 4:21.70 last spring looking
ready to roll this fall, and fine group to back him up! Ruben Nora-Roman
(Analay, Sebastapol) was 9:32.00 3200 in track, with Eureka a fine duo
of Mike Price and Spien Komak. Petaluma leads with Steven Cozza, with
Victor Camacho (Watsonville 19th in his Section last year). Castro Valley
is highly ranked NCS Division I, with Terra Linda having Brandon Sos and
Anton Jain leading the NCS divisional power.
