XC
Leader List update 10/5
There are now 750 cross country performances
from 200 meets as received by DyeStat through October 5. National
leaders remain: Alison Tubbs WA at both 5k (16:55)
and 3 mile (16:46), Bobby Curtis KY 5k (14:44) and
Micah Vandenend IL (14:29). There are more boys than
girls marks (472 to 294) because girls run shorter distances
in several states.
Caledonia MI sr Tim Ross made a big jump this week
with a 15:03 5k. Vanguard Ocala FL jr Steve Hassen moved
into a tie for 2nd in the boys 3-mile list with his 14:41
win in the flrunners.com Invitational, with Ryan Deak and
Rolf Steier right behind. Girls newcomers near the top were
Carolina Day NC sr Laura Stanley 17:30 5k and McQuaid
runners Molly Huddle, Notre Dame Elmira
NY sr, 17:04 3m and Laurel Burdick, Fayetteville-Manlius
NY sr, 17:16.

Ritz'
first college race is an easy
success as he and Jorge Torres (above) run together
and finish tied in 24:47 8k in the Rocky Mountain Shootout
at Colorado U. It was a Colorado freshman record and the
third fastest time ever on CU's tough Buffalo Ranch course,
but Torres and Ritzenhein both said they agreed to run
the race in tandem and "not kill ourselves"
because they have big races coming up. Afterwards, Dathan
Ritzenhein hung out with some fellow freshmen. (below)

Remember
September 11
Here are two ways the high school
cross country community can help victims of the
September 11 terrorist attacks on New York and
Washington:
NYC Firefighters fund -
The great track photographer Victah Sailer, whose
work appears frequently on DyeStat, is also a
NYC fire fighter. He requests that contributions
be sent to
NYC Uniformed Firefighters
Widows & Childrens Fund
204 East 23 St.
New York, New York 10010
"I would really appreciate this, as I lost
343 brothers," Sailer wrote. "100 per
cent of the money will go directly to the fund."
Run
for America - a virtual
run-walk will be held November 4, same day as
the New York Marathon. All proceeds will go to
the American Red Cross, the Families of Freedom
Scholarship Fund, and the Twin Towers Fund. The
event is sponsored by USA Track & Field, Runners
World, the New York Road Runners, the Road Runners
Club of America, and Running USA.
