MVAL Indoor Championships
North Hagerstown boys edged Middletown in a 2-team race, 143 to 128, while Middletown won the girls title of the 9-team Monocacy Valley Athletic League indoor championships held at Hagerstown Junior College. The Hub boys won 7 of 13 events, including doubles by Cameron Miller (1:11.4 and 2:10.4) and Alex McAbee (4:45.1 and 10:31.4), a league record 3200 relay (8:38.7), and Hunter Cross' record tying 7.6 hurdles. The Middletown girls vaulted ahead with a 24-point score in pole vault by Natalie Dye (9-3 MVAL and PR), Suzanne Turell, and Becky Walter, to go with Liz Lake's 800 (2:29) and the 3200 relay. Other MVAL records were set by Kathy Messner (7.1 and 41.5), Nicole Ruby (36-8.25, a half-inch ahead of North Hagerstown teammate Meagan Verdeyen), Richard Levy (12-6), and Derek Dye (6-4). |
