Hawaii Connection

Amber Trotter's victory in the Foot Locker cross country national finals at Disney World December 8 continues an interesting string: she is the third straight Foot Locker girls champion to have won the 3-year-old Iolani Invitational in Hawaii during the season.

In 1999, Hawaii native Victoria Chang won the inaugural Iolani meet and then came to the mainland to win the Foot Locker national finals. Last year, Sara Bei of California took the trip to Hawaii, won the Iolani Inv and went on to an "upset" victory in Orlando. This year, Trotter ventured to the Iolani meet September 22 at Kualoa Ranch (site of filming of Jurassic Park) and signalled she was ready for Foot Locker glory by beating Bei's 2000 time by 22 seconds. The Aloha charm worked again.

Is anyone thinking Hawaii for next September?
