Bay Shore High School, cont.

* Sarah McCurdy has great track times having run 2:11/5:03 as a 9th grader. has a pb of 19:48 and is much better then that! She could be running with our top two by the end of the season. Kayla Kenda and Caitlin Knapp are realm xc runners. They have solid track times, and both have run under 20:00. They run well together!

* 8th grader Alexis Ferguson is a real talent. She should be our #4 runner, and could be right with McCurdy.

* newcomer Kate Keagins has run one season. She already has run 5:17 indoors, and is very talented. Will bring her alomg slowly. Jordan Goldberg is a very good 800-1500 runner, who ran a pb 20:12 as a soph. She gives us depth. We have several new 8th and 9th graders who I am very excited to coach.

* the outlook for the season is very promising. We must stay healthy up front!

Tips/Secrets:

* listen to your athletes. They are the best source for racing and training. So many coaches do not adapt to the talent they have, and do not listen to what the athletes have to say. Ego's????

* try and keep fresh legs. We are a low mileage program, so we don't run our athletes into the ground. I try and plan long term, expecting each of our athletes to continue running in college. So many coaches get what they can out of the athletes now, and let the college coach pick up the pieces. I coach the athletes I have, as if I were coaching my own sons!

* everything is a progression. Be patient with your runners. I want every runner to get better each season of running. That has to be sold to some parents these days! Fortunately, we have great parents!
