SATURDAY SWEEPSTAKES

MT SAC 10/21/01 - Amber Trotter smashed Anita Siraki's year-old course record by 22 seconds with a stunning 16:16, and Yong-Sung Leal ran 14:43 for the fastest boys time of the meet in the Individual Sweepstakes races.. "I wanted to beat Billy Nelson's time (Friday night ) because everybody said I couldn't," Leal said. And he did, by 5 seconds, making him the 8th fastest prep ever on Mt. SAC's tough 2.91 mile course.

After blistering the first mile in 5:04, a pace that usually kills off front runners at Mt. SAC, Trotter just kept going. She finished 1:47 ahead of anyone else. Leal was pushed hard by Carl Dambkowski 14:56 and five more runners within 5 seconds.

In the Division 1-2 Team Sweepstakes, two more boys broke 15 minutes -- Kevin Davis, Clovis West 14:47 and Luke Llamas, Canyon 14:55. US#6 Canyon placed three in the top five and withstood a 53-position gap from their #1 to #5 to win with 83 points over Poly Long Beach 125, Rubidoux 135, and Dana Hills 159. Canyon's team time was 77: 07. Esperanza 69 won the girls Team Sweepstakes, with Liza Pasciuto winning a see-saw individual duel with Caitlin Chock, 17:30 to 17:37.

FRIDAY SWEEPSTAKES
In the supposedly lesser Friday card, Billy Nelson and Jenna Timinsky set a high standard that would be tough for the big schools to match on Saturday. Each entered the all-time Mt. Sac performance lists with brilliant runs on a relatively cool, overcast evening. US#4 McFarland, highest rated team in the meet in The Harrier's latest rankings, routed the Division 4 Sweepstakes with 31 points and a 79:00 team time for its five scorers.
