.COMPLETE FOOT LOCKER WEST RESULTS

Foot Locker West boys

Nurani Sheikh - from Salt Lake City via Somalia, Yemen, and Kenya - shocked the best runners from the West by winning the Foot Locker West regional at Mt. San Antonio College, Walnut CA. Third in the Utah State Meet way back on October 17, Sheikh signalled his readiness by winning the Utah meet of champions on November 10. But no one paid attention until he swept past Bill Nelson coming off Reservoir Hill in the last 800 meters to win by 7 seconds in 15:25. Story and results

Foot Locker West girls
Amber Trotter
In the Foot Locker West girls race, Ukiah CA sr Amber Trotter toyed with this field as she has in every race this season to win by 43 seconds over Felicia Guliford, 17:14 to 17:57. Trotter bolted to daylight in the first 100 meters and had a 20 second lead after a first mile in 5:08, effectively ending the contest. Story and results

FL finalist in auto accident
Northeast region Foot Locker finalist Andy Weilacher of PA was seriously injured in an auto accident Thursday 11/29 near his home, along with teammate Matthew Allenson. Weilacher apparently has damage to two vertebrae, but no spinal cord damage. He also sustained a head bruise. Weilacher has begun physical therapy, and is hoping for a full recovery. Allenson has sustained a spinal cord injury, but the extent of that injury has not been released. Foot Locker has announced that Weilacher will not be able to run in the finals at Disney World Dec. 8, and Brendan Sullivan NY will take his place.

USATF Convention notes (Mobile 11/30)
Scott Raczko honored
- South Lakes Reston VA coach Scott Raczko, most known for coaching Alan Webb, was named the Nike Youth Coach of the Year at the USATF convention in Mobile last week.
Jr Nationals moved
The conflict of dates between the adidas Outdoor Championships and the USATF Junior Nationals was removed today at the USATF convention. AOC will be held June 14-15 at Raleigh and Jr Nationals will be held June 21-22 at Stanford University. The two meets were held on the same weekend last June.

About those fast times in the South - The top 8 boys in the Foot Locker South regional all beat the pre-Webb record at McAlpine and 11 girls were under 18 minutes, the most ever in this regional. The South regional produced 8 of the top 12 times in the US for the entire season on the DyeStat XC Leader List. Was the course short? Has the South risen again? Three expert observors -- Rick Hill, Doug Speck, and Stephen (steveu) Underwood - give their views
