PREP NOTES & DUAL MEET MARKS
PRESTON NORMAN (Rancho Verde, Moreno Valley) - In an interview in the
Riverside Press-Enterprise by Ben Harrer the 6-10 high-jumper related
that as a senior this is his first year out for the sport. After an
early season 6-02 jump, he upped his best to 6- 06 in winning the Open
portion of the Arcadia Meet on 4/10, then two weeks later won Athlete
of the Meet honors at the Mt. Carmel Invite in San Diego where he
cleared a shocking 6'10! Norman averaged 20.1 points per game and a
Riverside County high 16.1 rebounds per game during the winter season
there.

Did I hear the coach right? - COACH JOHN TYREE (Miller HS, Fontana)
who is the Head Football and Track and Field Coach, in the Fontana
Herald News to reporter Russell Ingold, ""We try to tie track to
football and it works well because we have a lot of our football
players out here in the spring. A lot of these guys are real talented
and I expect some of them to go to the state meet."" This comment after
the Boys Varsity Track and Field team became the first team in Miller
HS sports history to go a full season undefeated with their 8-0 record.
Many other schools wish there was the cooperation between the big Fall
sport and track and field in the spring.
NORTH YOSEMITE LEAGUE MEET - (greater Fresno area) - Very strong Fresno
area League had Hoover edge Edison (Fresno) 117-110 on the Boys' side
and Bullard take the Girls contest 137-96 over Roosevelt. 21.57 200
star Louie Garrett was scratched out of the 200 along with fine
teammate Josh Norman as they did not check into the clerk in time for
the half lap race. Norman took the 100m in 10.4w and Garrett, in his
second 400 ever, raced 47.6!!! Edison raced 41.64 in the 400m relay and
3:20.5 in the 1600m baton event.
The Carano twins, Kevin 49-11.5w TJ, and 22-02.25w LJ, and Kyle
48-11w TJ and 10.7w 100m.

League Record in High Jump, with Krissy Schelir (Sierra, Tollhouse)
135-00 in the Discus. Selma's strong Boys' squad had 43.07 in the 400
relay, Joseph Mealy 14.4 (HH), with Joe Vasquez 55-05 (SP) and 168'03
(DT), along with a 15.7 for second in the Highs!
