ResultsKS- Sunflower Classic4/19/99 at Olathe, KS Individual Results: BOYS - GIRLS results courtesy of Tony Bozarth Over 75 schools from across Kansas met on a breezy day at the Olathe Activities Center Monday. School sizes ranged from rural high schools with less than 30 students total, to the largest high school in Kansas, Manhattan with over 1500. Highlights of the meet included a great javelin competition with 6 boys over 190, headed by Olathe North's Zach Josephson at 215-1. Brad Johnson of Olathe East popped a 58-6 in the shot. Mike Applehans of Hill City proved his early season 21.3 was no fluke with wins in 10.46 and 21.51 (electric timing) by wide margins. Rempel of Hesston swept the middle distances with 4:26 and 1:56 clockings, the last off at 60.0 opener! The girls meet was highlighted by a sub 11:00 effort from Amanda Pape of Olathe South (10:58.97 after a 5:10 DMR anchor). Foot Locker finalist Amy Mortimer of Riley County swept the middle distances at 5:07.23 and 2:18.80. Lindsay Eck of St. John's in Beloit won the 300H in 46.35, the long jump at 18-2.5, placed second in the high's (14.57) and fifth in the 100 (12.72). Four went over 127 in the javelin, won by Berry of Circle 132-8. Steady breezes hindered the oval races, though helped the sprints. The jumps were held in an area that saw cross winds. FAT was used for the meet. The meet, the inspiration of Olathe East track coach Mike Wallace, replaces (we hope temporarally) the KU Relays, on hiatus due to stadium construction work. Tony Bozarth, Head XC Coach, Olathe East HS Detailed results coming. This page was updated on 04/25/99 .
