ResultsAZ Scottsdale City Meet4/23/99 at Scottsdale AZ Individual Results: BOYS - GIRLS results courtesy of Aaron Black In the words of Desert Mountain coach John Prather this meet doesn't mean much, except for local supremacy. However the chance to see some of Arizona's top athletes compete for pride was too much to pass up for me. In particular, Chaparral's Matt Adler, and Morgan Williams, and Arcadia's Josh McKibbon, and Brandon Bennett were athletes I set my sights on. Although McKibbon was injured with a hyperextended knee, he still competed in throwing events, winning the shot and disc. Surprising the crowd was Desert Mountain's Brian Colby, who hadn't competed all year, managed to win the triple jump in 41'9", as well as the 300LH. The Boy's 400m meet record, set last year by Dante LoPresti at 49.59, in a performance that beat Chaparral's Matt Adler, was reset this year by Adler, who recorded a 48.68, which will stand not only as the meet record, but the fastest time in Arizona this season. Adler, who also had a chance at the 100m meet record of 10.94, could not break the record into a brisk headwind, and instead recorded an 11.10. On the Girls side, the performances of Desert Mountain's girls are pretty
much self explanitory. Coming off as the dominating City Cross Country
champions, the lady wolves beat a powerful Chaparral team. Desert
Mountain's Jen Hurbis, who was expected to perform well in her 4 events,
(1600,3200,800, and 3200 relay) was an easy choice for outstanding athete.
Another surprise was Chaparral's Amanda Ware, who landed a 16'9" jump
to best a talented long jump field. BOYS MEET RESULTS Team Scores: Arcadia 166, Chaparral 109, Saguaro 88, Desert
Mountain 86, Fountain Hills 49, Coronado 24
GIRLS MEET RESULTS Team Scores: Desert Mountain 194.5, Chaparral 137, Arcadia 81,
Saguaro 66, Coronado 37.5
