The Scene

Wayne D. Dannehl Cross Country Course on the grounds of the University of Wisconsin Parkside is the site of the Midwest Foot Locker Cross Country Championship. The University describes the course as "the only pure cross country course in the nation." Many cross country enthusiasts say it's a favorite course. The course is in a very wooded area filled with deer that need to be shooed out for races. The course has rolling hills, no sharp turns or very narrow paths.

While the meet takes place on the outskirts of Kenosha, the meet hotel is located in Racine, just over the county line. Both areas are located on Lake Michigan in southeast Wisconsin about 40 miles from Milwaukee and 60 miles from Chicago. Kenosha is a community of almost 91,000 that was founded in 1835. Once an agricultural hub, today it is a major business center.

Racine is a port of entry, and a manufacturing center for farm machinery, processed foods, automobile parts, machine tools, floor wax, and electrical equipment.  Settled as an agricultural community, it developed into an industrial one with the coming of the railroad and improvement of the harbor in the mid 1800s. Today Racine is the "Bell City of the Lakes."

The area is filled with things to do. Here are some that might be fun. Check out the many sites on Google for more things to do in Kenosha and Racine.
