the town

The City of White Plains is the host for the Loucks Games. It's a city of about 50,000 people 20+ miles from New York City in Westchester County, New York. White Plains is a city that dates back to colonial times and the battle of White Plains.

Today White Plains is a quiet community that not long ago merged its newspaper with surrounding communities because according to some locals "not much happens in White Plains."

The city has a dignified, settled look. Entering the city on Broadway, you find a park separates the opposite line of traffic. Once in the park you're conscience of the fountain, trees, and grass and forget about the traffic around you. It's a very nice part of the City. White Plains is very fond of sidewalk seating. Maybe it has something to do with being inside during the cold winters.

We found that the Loucks Games is a part of the White Plains community. We came across many people not only aware of the meet but followers of it. Of particular note was Jimmy, the bartender at Francescos on Mamaroneck Ave and Marty Hemsley, an avid track and field fan and runner who hosted athletes from out of town and also treated us to dinner. Thanks, Marty. All in all, we had a good time on and off the track.
