Boys - Jr Dwight Thomas doubled in the 55 meter dash (6.3h) and 55 hurdles (7.4h) to lead High Point to a surprisingly easy 79-56 victory over Northwestern-PG, the second straight indoor state title for High Point. The two teams battled all night long on the track, but High Point picked up points in field events. High Point jr Jeremy Grissette was involved in two unusual scoring instances. He tied the "slow" heat winner Jesse O'Connell, 11 Westminster, in the 800 (2:03.6), and was announced the winner in the 500 meters but had the result reversed and James Graham, 12 Northwestern, declared the winner when a clerical error was discovered (1:07.7 to 1:07.8).
John Rydezeswki, 12 Gaithersburg, won a shot put duel over Chris Parson, 11 Northern Calvert, 54-2.5 to 53-9.25. Paul Comas, 12 Annapolis, came out the winner in a 4-person high jump pack at 6-6.
Girls - Eleanor Roosevelt won its 5th straight state indoor championship with 71 points, 27 ahead of runner-up Dulaney. Roosevelt winners were sr Jessica DeFrietas (7.1 55D), jr Kimberly Jones (42.8 300m), sr Safiya Davy (8.3 55H), and the 4x200 relay team (1:46.0).
Calvert senior K. C. Allen raised her own indoor state pole vault record to 11-0.
