Road to Athens - T&F 8/20-28/04 Road to Athens latest stop - Weltklasse (Zurich, Switzerland)- Mo Green beaten (barely in 100) - Felix Sanchez (ex-University HS, San Diego) takes 400H - Toby Stevenson (Stanford) - Derek Miles (Bella Vista HS, Fair Oaks) 3-4 in PV - Inger Miller (Muir) and Angela Williams (Chino HS) 7-8 in Women's 100 - Nicole Teter (West Valley HS) 4th 800 - Perdita Felicien (Canada) former Arcadia Invite 100mH runner-up to Nichole Denby (North HS, Riv) as prep reverses situation at Switzerland, winning at 12.52 with Joanna Hayes (ex-North HS, Riv) 5th 12.69 and Nichole Denby 6th 12.74 - Lashinda Demus (LB Wilson) 4th 400H - Amy Acuff (UCLA) 3rd HJ Torri Edwards (ex-Pomona HS) latest to fall in drug "witch hunt" - Let's see, she was on a trip and took a glucose tablet that her physical therapist bought her there (Martinique) that had no banned substances listed in the contents, with the eventually named substance a very minor one. This whole thing is getting crazy with the world governing bodies spending half their time reshuffling medals and the results of past championships - remember Edwards was given the World Champ 100m gold medal from Paris last summer when Kelli White was dq'd for some drug that was not even on the banned list at the time - so the medal has gone from White to Edwards to I forget who was third now - Oops! I forgot to mention that the woman who was given the gold medal in the 200's at the worlds when White was dq'd, Russian Anastasiya Kapachinskaya was also DQ'd for drug usage, with Edwards moving up from 3rd to 2nd to 1st in that event on the "drug-count back." With Edwards now dq'd, I guess they will give the World Championship 200m Gold Medal from last summer to someone who was not even near the victory stand (top 3) last summer in Paris - They used to just warn folks who were in the situations like Edwards, saying be careful because the next time we will dq you for a period of time - seems like US sprinters obviously targeted this year in this area. -- Doug Speck
