Doug "Flash" Basham 2mi Footrace 8/26/04 - Redwood HS (Larkspur)

Hello friends,

The Redwood HS Cross Country Teams are hosting a 2 mile foot race at Redwood High School in Larkspur on Thursday night August 26th at 6:30pm in honor of long-time teacher and coach Doug "Flash" Basham.

We have had this event each season for many years in different formats (team time trial, alumni meet, faculty race) and now are opening it up to the public to celebrate the construction of the new all-weather track and field facility. We are hoping to start/finish on the new track (construction in progress now) and the course will run on pavement and perhaps some grass (depending on field availability) at Redwood.

I hope you can come out on this late summer, mid-week, evening to run with the defending Marin County Championship teams (In the 2003 MCAL Championship meet, Redwood swept the Varsity and JV boys and girls team titles) and other local high school runners and adults.

Along with an individual race, we will be scoring a team competition based on the runners' town of residence. Five runners will score for their town (men's and women's teams).

Entry fee is $5 for adults and $3 for high school and younger.

And, for you old-schoolers, bring a few race t-shirts that you need to unload and finishers can pick from a selection of old shirts after they cross the line. All sizes are needed.

Our boys' and girls' teams are slated to travel on a 3-day trip to Los Angeles in October for our annual trip to Mt SAC as well as an overnight trip in September for the varsity girls' team. Additionally, we are preparing for a post-season Redwood appearance at the State Championships in Fresno for the 10th consecutive season. We also must pay for buses and entry to one or two other invitationals during the season.

As an incentive to donate to our program we will be selling raffle tickets with prizes from local merchants ranging from a 3-month membership to the Bay Club to merchant's gift certificates and other fun stuff.

Thank you very much. Hope to see you there. Feel free to e-mail me about the race if you'd like.
