Idaho distance marks fall
Jed Barta of Bonneville HS won the 3200 in a new state meet record of
9:06.58 on Friday. On
Saturday, Barta and Gene Betancourt of Caldwell locked up in an epic 1600, with
Betancourt demolishing the old meet record with a 4:10.95 (old record
4:15.6) Barta hung on gamely for 2nd and was also under the old record,
running 4:12.67. Betancourt ran the last 800 in 2:02+. He also had
demolished a quality field earlier in the year at the Pasco Invite
running 4:12.5, beating Arcadia 3200 winner Adam Teneford by 3 secs. in
the last 200!!!!
Betancourt also anchored the meet record setting
sprint medley (3:31.60) with a 1:54 800 leg on a windy evening.
Betancourt will be running at the
Golden West Meet. Barta is planning to run the 5k at the natl. Jr.
champs.
In other events: Tim Flint of Skyview set a new record in the 300
hurdles posting a mark of 37.75. Duston Gregston of Mt. Home won the discus with a
heave of 190'0"; Nate Sisvester of Twin Falls was 2nd with a throw of
175'8".
