Sara Bei, Alfonso Leon, Long Beach Poly boys,
University (SF) girls win top honors

bei-poophill.jpg (24753 bytes)Sensational sophomore Sara Bei, Santa Rosa Montgomery, won the girls individual sweepstakes with a time of 17:05 over the very hilly Mt. Sac course, fastest girls time of the day and third fastest ever at Mt. SAC. 

At left, Bei climbs deadly Poopout Hill in the second mile with a slight lead over Sara Gorton of Arizona (left) and Lauren Fleshman of California.  

Sweepstakes team winners were the favored Long Beach Poly boys (67), and the underdog University (SF) girls.  University, a California Division 5 school with only 300 students, took it to the big girls with 104 points for a 43-point margin.

Sweepstakes - the creme de la creme of a meet that had 88 races with more than 14,000 runners, 450 schools, and 88 races (biggest HS cross country meet in the country).  Only the best schools and best runners could enter the sweepstakes races.
