Salina Central, behind Ashley Keats four victories dethroned eight time
defending champion Liberal, while Trisha Nickoley continued to wow the middle
distance fans.

into the pressure, simply scoring where they were expected, to knock off
Liberal. McPherson edged Nickoley's Shawnee Heights team for third.
Keats won the 100H (14.77), TJ (38-7), LJ (18-6) and JT (139-6) to lead

4A Boys

Baldwin's boys once again took the state title behind a Matt Noonan distance triple. Baldwin scored 73 points, while Lansing and Towanda-Circle scored 40 to tie for second.
Noonan won the 3200 and 1600 and placed second in the 800 to team mate Erick Black. In the 3200 Noonan moved late to run 9:33.90, edging Clay Center's Joe Moore (9:34.26). Using the same strategy in the 1600, Noonan again edged Moore (4:24.29 to 4:25.20.) In the 800, Noonan went out hard, then was passed at the 500 mark by Black. Black opened up down the homestretch to win in 1:56.89 to Noonan's 1:58.30). Baldwin also went 1-2 in the javelin with Eric Brown (197-0) and Hugh Murphy (195-7).
Ft. Scott's Kyle Lancaster had the best individual mark of the six division meet, holding the 25,000 fans spellbound with a 7-0 HJ win, then three close attempts at a 4A record 7-2, rolling the bar off the last time with his ankles.
Wellington's Tim Lira swept the short sprints, running 10.73 and 22.07, while Towanda-Circle's Justin Alexander ran 48.34 in the 400 to defeat Lansing's Ryan Slater (49.00, with Lira third at 49.55). Chanute's Jacob Williams impressed with a 15-0 PV win.

3A Boys

Minneapolis used it's team speed to win the 3A boys title. Led by Drew Wedels sprint double (11.03/22.76), the Lions outdistanced Richmond-Central Heights (45) and Beloit (36) for the win.
Top marks were turned in by Jordy Nelson (Riley County 49.55 400)and Luke Stadel (Osage City 171-0 DT).
Hoisington's Adam Willis took the distance races (4:30.40/ 9:42.47) while Central Height's Shane Teter won the 800 (1:58;02) and anchored Central Height's 4 x 800 champ (8:02.86).
A big shot competition saw fine marks and depth with Beloit's 57-9.5 to out toss Kale Katt (Holcomb 57-1.5) and discus champ Stadel (53-6).
Oakley's Brent Robben won the 110H (14.78), placed second in the HJ (6-6 to lose on misses to Belle Plaines Zach Woods), but brought the crowd to feet in his 300H race where he didn't place. Running in the first section (rain on Friday forced timed section finals, Robbens hit the first hurdle hard, rolled flat onto the track, then proceeded to get up and run somewhere in the 41.5 range (official times not yet posted at this writing), making up an entire flight of hurdle's on the field, placing about 3rd in his heat. While not a medal winning race, it was certainly indicitive of the effort that the Kansas state meet is all about.
