By any measure, the top two girls in the nation and the best pair in many years are in this race: Hoover Glendale CA sr Anita Siraki and Campbell County WY sr Alicia Craig. Siraki-Craig, Craig-Siraki . . . flip a coin. Whoever wins this time will just have to do it again a week later in Orlando, where the rest of the finalists have an extra week of rest after the three November 25 regionals, so the West regional may not see either runner go all out. The fiercest competition will be for the other six tickets to the national finals in Orlando December 9. This is a talent-rich region with 20 or 30 girls who could make a case for consideration. The West returns the most girls from last year's finals of any region, including the 3-4-5 finishers (Craig, Siraki, and Guliford).

Anita Siraki - Came on strong late in her junior year, becoming the best 2-miler in the country. Broke Mt. SAC 2.98-mile course record by an amazing 17 seconds in October. California state Division 1 champion a week ago with fastest time of the meet.
Alicia Craig - defending regional champion, leader of the US#3 Campbell County WY team, winner of the Great American Cross Country Festival, and winner of the mile at both the Golden West Invitational and the Foot Locker Outdoor last June. Signed for Stanford.
Sara Bei - May be returning to her younger form. Foot Locker finalist her freshman and sophomore years until fading to 10th in the West region a year ago. A rare double champion in the California State Meet (1600-3200) as a freshman. Won team sweepstakes at Mt. SAC Invitational, 41 seconds slower than Siraki's individual sweepstakes win, but was only 14 seconds slower than Siraki last week at California State Meet.
