BOYS
The battle is for second place, as South Lakes VA sr Alan Webb stands head and shoulders above this field. He is defending regional champion and course record holder and seems stronger this year than last. As outlined in Steve Underwood's preview, however, there are many standout runners to contend for the other seven tickets to Orlando. Tops among these are Winchester VA jr Bobby Lockhart, 16th at Orlando last year; TX sr Rod Koborsi, 13th in this region last year, but Texas State Meet champion this year over Steven Maddox, 3rd in this region last year and 24th at Orlando; and three more returning FL finalists: the Jefferson twins of Florida and Stephen Haas, 11th at Orlando last year. And you can't rule out Mike Swope of FL, who just beat the Jeffersons in the Florida State Meet.

GIRLS
Top two contenders are Christa Benton FL and Jessa Vacek TX. Both are returning FL finalists, and Benton has been burning up the courses in Florida. Injuries have knocked two top NC contenders -- Casey McGraw and Julia Lassiter-Lucas. But Kelly Otstott VA, a national finalist two years ago and set back by injuries since then, may be back in form for another run at Orlando.
