Qualifiers for State Meet October 28

Class 4A Regional Highlights Top Three teams and 15 individuals qualify 

@ Topeka State Hospital Grounds, Topeka Clay Center dominated the girls race, then edged Wamego in the boys to take home double championship trophies. Kristy Perry led a 1-2-7-10 finish for Clay Center (31) to pull away from Topeka Hayden 81 and Lansing 83. Wamego missed a qualifying spot by 3 in a loaded regional. Clay Center's Joe Moore pulled away from Wamego's Todd Speer to win 16:22-16:35 over the hilly course. Top ranked Clay Center edged #3 Wamego by one point, with Tonganoxie taking the final qualifying spot.

El Dorado's girls readied for a strong state title win with a dominating 81 point win over Coffeyville. Labette County edged Towanda-Circle by 10 for the final qualifying spot. Kara Griffith led El Dorado;s 1-3-7-9-13 finish with an easy 11:51 win. Clearwater defeated Chapman 66-86 for the boys title, with Caney Valley edging El Dorado and Rose Hill for the final team spot. Rose Hill's Ryan Ghaffari (17:11) held on to edge El Dorado's Aaron Morgan (17:12) and Clearwater's Drew Barry (17:15)

@ Ottawa 

Baldwin dominated the rugged hills of Ottawa's course. Laid out over an abandoned gravel pit, the course features rugged hills and poor footing. Baldwin scored a sweep of the boys and girls races, scoring 29 in both. Garnett and Iola took the other boys qualifying places, while Mill Valley (a first year school) and SF Trail took the girls places. Iola missed a girls spot at state by one point. Matt Noonan (Baldwin) defeated Mill Valley's Griffin Lee by 19 seconds, while Trisha Culbertson (Burlington) defeated Megan Noonan (Baldwin) in a battle of two of the state's top runners. Boys: 1. Brittany Hill, a Hugoton freshman, continued her undefeated season with an 11:45 win over Ulysses Andrea Meirhoff (12:15). Concordia won the boys title (69), with Hugoton (85) and Colby (139) taking the other two spots. Hugoton , Concordia and Ulysses took the girls qualifying spots. No other information was available at this time.
