Kansas 6A Regionals Top Four Teams qualify. Top 15 individuals or next 5 runners on non-qualifying teams qualify.
@ Wichita Heights Saturday 10/21/00 Maize scored a double win, taking both the girls and boys titles. Eric Sorneson scored a 19 second win over Wichita East's Tyson Willoughby. Hutchinson freshman Morgan Bonds outran Maize's Jen Kramer, the state 1600 runner-up in track, for the victory on the girls side.

This regionals girls field was referred to by the Kansas City Star newspaper as "The Magnificent Seven", as seven of the state's top ten girls teams were placed in one regional. Blue Valley Northwest used front-running pack power to offset the 1-3 finish of Olathe South's Alysha Galbraith (11:34) and Amy Gouchner (11:39). Manhattan's Harper McConnell (11:37) split the pair. State ranked Aquinas and Emporia also qualified, while state-ranked Manhattan, Washburn Rural, and Olathe East will stay home. Washburn Rural used a powerful final drive over the last 800 to move past #3 ranked Olathe South and take 48-55 victory. Emporia placed third at 76, while Aquinas edged Olathe East 110-125 for the final qualifying spot. Greg Brovillett (Aquinas) moved late to edge Washburn Rural's Matt Swedlund for the individual title, both running 16:29.

@ SM Park, Shawnee Mission 10/21/00
Blue Valley North's Scott Loftin roared to 39 second margin over Sunflower League champ Calvin Locklear (SMNW), running the hilly SM Park course in 15:30. Locklear led his Shawnee Mission Northwest team to it's second narrow win over top-ranked Lawrence in two weeks, 61-69. SM Northwest entered the championship season ranked #2 in state coach's poll. Leavenworth (96) and Lawrence Free State 105 rounded out the team qualifiers Amy Hastings (Leavenworth), the KU Invitational champ and Sunflower League runner-up to Olathe South's Alysha Galbraith, triumphed over Blue Valley Elle Pishny 12:12 to 12:23. SM Northwest, fresh off it's Sunflower League win over the state's top four ranked teams, narrowly defeated Lawrence Free State 42-44. Blue Valley (104) and defending state champ SM East (114) also qualified.
