Lawrence Free State's girls (ranked #4 in 6A) defeated top-ranked SM Northwest 40-49 at the USATF Invitational, hosted by SM Northwest. The meet featured top teams from Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri. Free State's Jacki Dubois, Sarah Underwood and Mallory Richardson packed in at 4-5-6 to split Northwest's pack of Katie Greenwood (2nd), Katie Kroeger (7th) and Elaine Cobb (8th). The individual title went to West Plains (MO) Amanda Marcak (16:13) over Greenwood (16:20) and Mountain Home's (AR) Dawn Crawford 16:22 Adam Perkins (Liberty MO) outran Scott Loftin (Blue Valley North) 15:44 to 15:52 over the hilly 5k course in a battle of state favorites. Josh Davis (Liberty 15:54) and Eric Gross (Mountain Home AR) 15:59 also broke 16:00 In the boys team race, Lee's Summit outran Missouri rival West Plains 70-77. Mountain Home AR edged Liberty MO for third 89-91, while #2 KS Lawrence upended top-ranked SM Northwest 143-155.

Bishop Miege Invitational 9/30 @ Miege HS, SM KS: Olathe East's boys defeated Miege 42-70 to win their third straight Miege Invitational. Jared Wisner led East's boys, winning the individual title. Miege (ranked #2 5A) defeated Olathe East (#8 6A) 25-48 in the girls race. Pembroke Hill's Allison Smith ran to a 12:13 win over KC Metro Champ Sarah Glatt (Miege) 12:25, state 3200 runner-up Jackie Heap (Miege) 12:38, and state 400 champ Allison Bessler (Olathe East) 12:58.

Blue Valley Inivitational @ Blue Valley Nature Park, Stanley KS 9/30: Independence MO's Truman HS raced to a 20-74 win over Aquinas in the 5A-6A class, with Aquinas's Greg Brouillete placing first at 16:47 for 5k. Matt Noonan of Baldwin led his team to a 43 point win over St. Mary's in the 1A-4A division. Noonan had the fastest time of the day in 16:29 Missouri's Notre Dame de Sion (31) raced to a big win over KS state ranked Blue Valley (75), Aquinas (81) and Baldwin (86). Lisa Morrisey (Ottawa) ran 12:00 to defeat Megan Noonan (Baldwin) 12;10, Elle Pishney (Blue Valley) 12:20 and Sions's Jessica Eisenbrey 12:20

Hays Invitational @ Ft. Hays State U., Hays KS 9/30/00: 5A rivals Great Bend and Liberal (who've both been ranked #1 this year) hooked up again, with Great Bend winning by one point, 39-40. Last year Great Bend won the State Meet over Liberal on a tie-breaker. Hays (#7 5A) was third with 77 points. Liberal went 1-2 individually with Josh Madathill (16:40) and Justin Alexander (16:57) beating Great Bend's Jason Parr (17:03) Wakeeney's Erin Locke won the girls 2 mile in 12:45 over Salina South's Heather Rupp and Dodge City's Hannah Love. Great Bend (#3 5A) scored 32 to beat Salina South 68 (#7 5A).

Shawnee Height Invitational @ Lake Shawnee, Topeka 9/30 Leavenworth scored double indvidual victories with Luke Belford (16:45) and Amy Hastings (12:10) winning. Emporia (#4 6A) edged Leavenworth (#6 5A) 45-49 in the boys race.
