The top early season small to mid-size schools meet in Kansas was run over the 4A-1A state course.

3A Girls: #3 ranked and defending state champ Northern Heights scored an impressive win over #2 Mission Valley. 3A state champ Erin Mortimer (Riley County) easily won in 12:03 (3200 meters).

3A Boys: Northern Heights makes it a sweep with a win over Riley County.

4A Girls: In a meeting of the top 4 ranked teams in the state, El Dorado defeats Clay Center, Baldwin and Topeka Hayden. #5 Mill Valley just opened this year. Freshman Lisa Morrisey (Ottawa) won her second straight start.

4A Boys: State favorites Joe Moore (Clay Center) and Matt Noonan (Baldwin) duel, with Moore pulling away late to win in 16:15, fastest boys time of the day. Clay Center edges Baldwin by 4 for the team title.
