Some KS highlights from the William Jewell Relays, held in Liberty MO 4/15/00

Lawrence Free State (KS) came up with some big performances at the William Jewell College Relays, held Saturday 4/15/00. They placed 2nd to to Liberty HS 128.5 to 106.5. Tay Ogannace won the 100 in a blazing 10.44. Free State also won the 400 relay 43.51, 4 x 400 3:24.65, and 4 x 800 4 x 800 8:14.33

Naomi Williams of Kansas City (MO) Northeast had a big triple win with an 11.78 100, 25.59 200 and 59.18 400. Katherine Hoffman of Kansas City (MO) Notre Dame de Sion, a sub 11:00 3200 runner last year doubled in 5:18.27 (1600) and 11:37.41. Grandview took the women's team title over Liberty 95-91. Sixteen teams from the Kansas City area competed in the Large Schools division and seventeen in the Small Schools division. Lawson and South Harrison tied for the boys small school title, and Salisbury won the girls title.

The renewed KU Relays will highlight this weekend's action.

Historically the meet draws a large number of schools from northern Oklahoma and south and central Kansas. Meet is run in 6 divisions.

Highlights:

6A Boys: Wichita Heights won over Hutchinson and Derby. Larry German led Heights with a 23-.75 LJ, winning by almost 2 feet. Daryn Parker of Dodge City scored a 1600-3200 double (4:31.93-9:46.69) and Stillwater OK's Marc Walling doubled in the hurdles (15.78-39.55)

5A Boys: Oklahoma City's John Marshall HS won six events to take the team title. John Marshall's Johnathon Holland won the 110H (15.83) and HJ (6-4) to lead the team

6A Girls: Derby outscored Stillwater OK for the team title. Topeka Washburn Rural's Caty Holston had the outstanding individual marks with a 5:19.84-11:10.9 distance double. Stillwater's Delissa McClain throw the discus 140-8 to win by over 20 feet.

5A Girls: McPherson won the team title. Liberal's Denita Miller had overwhelming wins in the discus (134-5) and javelin (159-0)
