The Meet

Eagle Island State Park is the site of the Bob Firman Invitational. Eagle Island is a 545-acre day-use park west of Boise that features a swimming, a grassy picnic area, a waterslide and more than five miles of trails for those looking for a place to ride horeses, hike, walk your dog, or play disc golf.  It is also a great place for a cross country invitational.  It is so popular that within the next few years, it will be expanded with additional lakes and facilities.

The Bob Firman Invitational is named after Bob Firman, a teacher of 40 years and a coach of 23 years.  Now retired, Bob Firman taught and coached at Borah High School in Boise, Idaho.  The naming of the invitational is a tribute to Coach Firman for his work through the years promoting and encouraging cross country as a high school sport in the Boise/ Treasure Valley area.

 The prized award!

It was a rough start to the meet with dark clouds, periods of driving rain, wind, slipery slopes, and lots of mud.  Spectators and athletes alike wrapped in plastic coats and bags and under umbrellas.

But weather or not, the races went on.

But by the first elite race the sun was out, the temperature was warmer, straw was on the course and we had a beautiful afternoon.

Great day for Volley ball on the side.

Yikes, this water is cold but great for cleaning the mud off of my shoes and flip flops.
