Clint Pevril's State Meet Preview

Will Mtn Home boys spoil Rogers run at a 10th state title?????

Will Bentonville's Kelly Bryson win her 4th state AAAAA championship?

Can AAA Berryville win both girls & boys team titles....again?

Siloam Springs realistically could run away with boys AAAA title with a

perfect score????

Kathy Tadlock of the AAA says that we will be having a record number of

competitors at the meet this year. I don't have an exact count but after

talking to her today, it will likely be more that 1000 entries in the 4

divisions of boys and girls.

The boys and girls should be a stronger field than last year as well

because most of the top 25 runners that was on our all star team last year

were underclassmen. Some of the individuals for the girls to watch are:

Kelley Bryson of Bentonville who has run 10:47 for a 2 mile CC race this

season is probably the best runner in the state this year. However, some

other girls are certainly trying to overcome her. Some of the top runners,

regardless of class are:

Dawn Crawford of Mountain Home AAAAA

Amanda Owensby of Bentonville AAAAA

Candace Bowling of Siloam Springs AAAA

Amber Dean of Watson Chapel AAAA

Candace Cross of Crossett AAAA

Laura Insell of Batesville AAAA

Jamie Owensby of Bentonville AAAAA

Gina Messina of Bryant AAAAA

Heidi Vondermehden of Harrison AAAA

Tiffany Dotson of Harrison AAAA

Whitney Barr of Berryville AAA

Candace James of Bryant AAAAA

Meghan Urguhart of Mt. St. Mary AAAAA

Jessica Harris of Pottsville AA

So the favorites for each division would be Bryson in AAAAA, Bowling

in AAAA, Barr, in AAA, & Harris in AA.

The team favorites for AAAAA would be Bentonville followed by Bryant,

Mountain Home, and Fayetteville in no particular order.

In AAAA, Harrison is a strong favorite to win yet another

championship. They are followed by Lake Hamilton, likely no. 2 position,

and Watson Chapel and Hot Springs, and Crossett also having a chance at a

high finish.

In AAA, Berryville is again the favorite with DeQueen pretty close

behind them.

In AA, Decatur is the favorite but could be challenged by Eureka

Springs and Magnet Cove.

The boys field should be strong also with Carlos Arrizon of

Berryville establishing himself as the number one individual in the state

but Eric Gross of Mountain Home and Jon Allen of Newport pushing him for

that position. The following would be the likely top few individuals

overall:

Carlos Arrizon of Berryville AAA

Jon Allen of Newport AAAA

Eric Gross of Mountain Home AAAAA

Kyle Cleveland of J.A. Fair AAAAA

Scott Swearingen of Rogers AAAAA

Peter Marston of Mountain Home AAAAA

Francisco Andrade of Rogers AAAAA

Logan Thomas of Mountain Home AAAAA

Zach Hill of Siloam Springs AAAA

Matt Sheets of Cabot AAAAA

Ryan Wilson of Cabot AAAAA

So the favorites in each division would be: Gross in AAAAA, Allen in

AAAA, Arrizon in AAA, and Brandon Moore of Acorn in AA.

The team favorites should be Rogers in AAAAA with Mountain Home and

Russellville close behind. In AAAA, Siloam Springs is a solid favorite

with Lake Hamilton and Crossett battling it out for no. 2.

In AAA, Berryville is a solid favorite with Eureka Springs not too far

behind. Don't rule out Central Arkansas Christian and Warren either.

In AA, Pottsville and Acorn are likely too battle it out for the top

position.

These are the favorites as I see them based on the results of meets

that have been turned to the ATCA website throughout the season. Other

coaches may have some other favorites. At any rate, it should be an

interesting and strong state meet.

This should also produce a stronger all star team this year as well.

That will be at U. of A. Fayetteville again this year next Saturday Nov.

13th at Noon. This year the all star meet will be against Oklahoma,

Kansas, & Missouri. Again, Arkansas will pick 25 runners in the girls and

boys divisions. These 25 runners will be chosen from all 4 divisions of

the state meet this Saturday as well as season long performances. The head

coach for the all star teams this year will be Clint Pevril of Mountain

Home High School. The all star team is sponsored by the Arkansas Track

Coaches Association.
