Golden West Invitational

15 national leaders
announced as GWI entries

GWI announcement 6/8/99

With the Athletes to begin arriving at the only "Olympic Village" style
experience in High School Track and Field in less than two days selection
chair Tom Lingel confirmed the following National Leaders will be in
Sacramento.

1. Boys Mile-Andy Powell 4:02.7

2. Boys 3,200-Augie Escobar 8:56.23, faces an awesome field including ALL
the top distance boys in the country !! Five sub 9:00 minute times in the
field !! Slowest entrant in the twelve man field 9:07.71 !!

3. Boys 300 Hurdles-Garland Martin 36.22-will face a field that includes 5
others with a possible sixth that have all gone under 37.00 !!

4. Boys High Jump-Tri-National Leader-Matt Vincent 7'2- also #4 Michael
Beasley 7'1 1/2

5. Boys Long Jump-Tommy Oleksy-25'0 1/4 (25'1 3/4w)- Field will include
2A,3A,4A and 5A champs from Texas.

6. Boys Javelin-Gary File-240'1-will face two others who have gone past 220'

7. Girls 400-Monique Henderson-52.87-will face 3 others who have broken 54.5

8. Girls 800-Lindsay Hyatt 2:06.74-One of only 3 athletes in California to
win 4 straight State Titles

9. Girls Mile-Alejandra Barrientos 4:45.02 (1,600)-will face an outstanding
field including 2 and possibly a third that have gone under 4:50

10. Girls 100 Hurdles-Nichole Denby-13.42

11. Girls Shot Put-Jill Camarena 50'11 1/4

12. Girls Javelin-Katy Polansky-171'3 will face an extremely tough field

13. Girls Pole Vault-Kathleen Donnoghue 12'8 1/4-six in the field have gone
over 12'0
maybe the toughest girls vault field ever assembled !

14. Girls High Jump-Kim Riley & Hyleas Fountain (competing unattached)-6'0

15. Girls Discus-Briona Reynolds

Lingel said once again the Golden West was the Nation's premier High School
Track and Field meet. "The overall experience of the GWI can't be matched" .
