A good competition took place under mild heat conditions with some gently aiding breezes in the 100, Long Jump, and Hurldes. Brian Clay (Azusa Pacific) recorded the #6 U.S. Junior score in history in winning at 7312. Clay had some fine efforts, 10.58 (+1.8) 100m - 22-06.5 LJ (+1.8) - 38-04 SP - 6-07.75 HJ - 51.77 (400m) - 14.60 (HH +1.7) - 133-08 (DT) - 13-07.25 (PV) - 173-06 (JT) - 4:56.71 (1500m).

Equally as impressive was Marcell Allmond (So Cal Cheetahs/St. Paul HS, Santa Fe Springs, Ca), with a 7097 total that maks him U.S. prep history's #7 all-time performer. Allmond was impressive with 10.85 100m, 22-05.75 LJ, 6-04.25 (HJ he has been over 6-10), 49.49 (400m), 14.30 (HH), 12- 07.5 (PV his downfall sometimes in the past), and 174-06 (Jav). Marcell is the leading athlete in the world in the event with a 1981 Birthdate, putting him in the favorite's role for the World Junior Championships next year. He will be attending USC (that's the West Coast University of Southern California, not east coast University of South Carolina) as a football player, where he could be all-world with the right attitude as a receiver or defensive back.
