Ellannee Richardson, who emerged last summer as an Oregon prep to score 5104 in age-group action, was all the way up to 5678 this spring as a first year athlete at Washington State to take the U.S. Junior Record of 5591 held by Marlene Harmon from 1981 and place fourth in the NCAA Championships along the way. This is a super athlete who would battle last year's star, Kendra Reimer (5493 as New Braunfels HS, Texas prep, now at Texas A&M 5377 99 best). Laura Widman of Seattle Pacific had scored 5199 this season. Richardson blazed 14.11 (+2.6 mps wind) in the 100 Meter Hurdles and never looked back here. She added 5-03 in the High Jump, 36-06.75 in Shot, and cranked 23.83 in the 200 (+2.5) to lead by 160 points at the end of day one over Widman at 3300 points. Prep Jamie Walker from nearby Fort Worth was next after the first day at 3052 off solid 14.96 - 5-04.25 - 34-06.75 and 25.18 marks. Reimer had 2986.

On day two, Widman took the Long Jump at 19-02.25 over Reimer 19-01.5, with Kendra's Javelin abilities (151-00 to win by seventeen feet over Richardson) pulling her up into second. Richardson 2:19.25 and Reimer 2:22.31 went 1-2 in the closing 800 to nail down first and second with 5600 and 5359. Widman was next at 5199, with preps Jamie Walker 5087 and Nicholette Chambers (Deleware) 5034 closing out fine depth at the top end.
