DONNA ON THE SIDE AT PORTAGE MI The SceneWhat a great day for cross country. It was the best day for cross country this season (at least in Michigan) with the blue sky and puffy white clouds at 60 degrees. North of I-94 is Kalamazoo; South of I-94 is Portage, the site of the Portage Invitational. Here I was, home in Michigan enjoying the great weather, warm hospitality and a can of pop. Today, the meet, tomorrow a visit with my nephew and his family (who lives in Portage) and sister (who lives in Dearborn Heights). Life is Good! The Portage Invitational meet is a spectator friendly course. It doesn't take much to follow the kids as they run the course twice to end at a very open finish line. And the course was filled with enthusiastic family, friends and fans. A computer chip is used for timing and that eliminates the need for the finish line chutes, leaving the finish area wide open and friendlier to both runners and officials. Workerbees
