State Scoreboard

Boys - Girls.

Texas boys and and New York girls score most points;
New Jersey a strong runner-up in both

by John Dye

AOC is open to anyone meeting the entry guidelines, and 2,000 athletes from all over the country came to Raleigh,
making it the most comprehensive national meet of the year. To test relative strength of states, we scored this meet by states,
counting the first eight finishers (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1). We excluded some events that are either not
National Federation/DyeStat Elite events or are not contested generally across the country.

The winners were: Texas boys and New York girls, with New Jersey a strong runner-up in both.
Some top Western athletes competed in the Golden West Invitational in Sacramento a week before Raleigh
and skipped the eastern trip to rest for the Junior Nationals a week after Raleigh.

Boys

Texas 112, New Jersey 108, New York 74, North Carolina 62, Indiana 58, Ohio 50, Michigan 48, Virginia 40.
Texas grabbed an unsurmountable lead with 1-2-3 sprint sweeps in both the 100 and 200.
New Jersey rallied behind throwers (16 points from Kevin DiGiorgio alone and 22 points from four discus throwers)
and relays (19 points in the 4x400 brought New Jersey within 4 points, but neither state scored in the closing DMR).
