Nevada 2001 Outdoor State Meet

The saga of the boys 4x400 from a local observor:

The boys 4A came down to the final event 4x400.
If Desert Pines wins the race...Western wins the meet. If DP loses ...Hug wins.
The DP anchor dives across the finish line winning by .01....Western
wins...but wait....DP gets DQed because of running inside the first lane
on one of their legs...Hug wins!!!
Western's 4x1 was disqualied in the prelims which hurt their chances.
They were originally allowed in the meet after getting DQ in the Regional
Meet. they claimed officiating error and were re-instated into the State
Meet, not having run in the Regional. The Northern coaches, en masse,
filed protests immediately after they ran in the prelims. The protest was
upheld by theGames Committee. Not a happy team, coach and administrator.
I was surprised the courts didn't get involved.
