Wilson Sweeps !

Woodrow Wilson High School's boys and girl's cross-country teams capped off their seasons by winning the DCIAA cross-country championships Saturday at Fort Dupont Park. The girl's team fought off a determined challenge by the Lady Indians from Anacostia Senior High School. Coach Frank Briscoe's team "has been making steady progress" noted Wilson coach, Ron Jenkins. "We knew that Anacostia would come out and run with our girls and they did not prove me wrong." A fine effort by Anacostia freshman, Shontia Jackson, who finished first with a time of 22min. 32sec. led the Indians to their second place finish with 41 points. " I wasn't thinking that much about the race," Jackson said. "I felt really good and I wasn't tired at all."

Wilson girls win 6th straight

For the Wilson girl's team, this marked their sixth consecutive league title. With last year's freshman sensation, Sheena Willis sitting out the season while recovering from an injury that occurred while training during the summer, the Tigers went to and received their leadership from senior Rochelle Billingslea. Rochelle's second place finish led a host of Wilson runners as the Lady Tigers placed five runners in the top ten.

Wilson boys end Ballou string

Wilson's boys team broke a string of Ballou High School Championships as the team edged the Knights 43 to 51.Freshman Johnny Watkins of M.M. Washington finished first individually with a time of 18:41, but it was the Tigers of Woodrow Wilson who placed four runners in the top ten that stole the show. It was the first championship for the Wilson boys since 1998. Senior Silas Riener, fifth place said, "I knew we had a chance to win and our guys came together today. We haven't won in a long time and this was a good feeling." The victory is the first championship for Coach Jimmy Green who took over this year for William Miezan. For Coach Green, this championship could be the start of big things for the boy's team as they move into the indoor season.
