Barnes made a valiant effort to close the gap and got it down to only 5 seconds at the 2800m mark but Owensby hung on to a 10:02 to 10:07 lead and would widen her final margin slightly down the last 400m as Barnes opened up a 10 seconds lead over Williams who had dropped back to 4th at 2800m but outkicked O’Toole over the last 600m as they ran nearly stride for stride.Laura Insell of Batesville, AR running unattached made a hard charge over the last 1000m to move into 5th at 16:01.
