Loyola junior Mark Matusak and Laguna Creek senior Rachel Bryan each used
a sudden surge at the summit of the race's final hill -- Reservoir Hill -- in putting the
competition away en route to posting the fastes times (14:33 & 17:12) of the meet!

Don Lugo affirmed its #12 national ranking with a 47-point (and 48-second) win over
#22-ranked Royal in the Team Sweepstakes Race. That's close, given 19 fine teams were entered!

Using a fine close by it's top two runners in the final mile, #11-ranked
Murrieta Valley (center) rallied to top #13-ranked Reno of Nevada in the
Team Sweepstakes Race! Sultana, ranked #20 in the U.S., claimed third.

It was Burbank HS phenom Jeff Nelson who captured the hearts of a distance-running nation
during the late 1970's running boom. Nelson still owns the Mt. SAC 'original course' record, a
stunning 14:32 streak into prep history. Nelson also holds the U.S. prep 2-mile track record (8:36).
