Mt. SAC Invitational winners 47 years ago - Orange HS led by 4:11 mile legend Dale Story - 8th annual Mt. San Antonio Invitational Cross Country Meet - 1273 entries - (left to right) Marshall Sparks, John Reyes, Dick Cherri, Harold Hansen, Dale Story, Bert Pinkston, Norman Shattuck (EC Slick photo) - wow!!! talk about history!!! - Interestingly, Dale Story won the only State Cross-Country Meet held prior to 1987 with his 1957 win at Merced in an "experiemental" State Meet - Dale ran barefooted (legal in those days) and Hal Harkness reported he took the first and only state meet for a long while running barefooted over the golf course on a cold and foggy day in the Sac Joaquin Valley area!!

Center Meet - CCS - Crystal Springs - 2.95 miles - 10/24/02 - The Shackleton's of Carlmont (Belmont) Kyle (15:36) and Drew (15:43) went 1-2 against Small School star Nick Neely (Crystal Uplands) (15:50), with Monta Vista (83), led by super youngsters (soph) Jason Yow and (frosh) Scott Russell, took the team title. Girls had soph Alicia Follmar (Saratoga) 19:21 over Michal Oda-Burns (Menlo School) 19:32, with Monta Vista a 77-80 winner over Lynbrook - Results

Buena Vista Invitational - Central Section - Lake Buena Vista Golf Course - Taft - 10/24/02 - Jose Melena, super soph from Antelope Valley (Lancaster) takes Boys Individual contest at 16:18 to lead his team to victory with 38 points - Alicia Veiss (McFarland) leads her team to win with 19:40 run, as Div IV power dominates with 44 points - Results

West Bay Athletic League - CCS - Meet #2 - Crystal Springs - 2.95 miles - 10/22/02 - Notre Dame (San Jose) squeaks out close Girls win over state-rated Div V power Castilleja (Palo Alto) 30-34, with Alana Levinson (Cast) fine 19:27 winner - Jack Welch leads Redwood Christian to big win (31 point total) with his 16:44 win over Peter Trudelle (Woodside Priory) - Results

Baseline League Boys Meet - Red Hill Park - Rancho Cucamonga - just short of 3 miles - (SS) - 10/22/02 - Mike Poe (Etiwanda) warmed up for Mt. SAC this weekend with a 15:17 win, with Andrew Trinidad (Rancho Cucamonga) leading his team to a low 29 point total in its win with his 15:26 for second - Girls - Upland's fine team takes the contest with 39 to Etiwanda's 44 - Stephanie Chavez (Etiwanda) 18:12 winner - Results

West Catholic Athletic League - CCS - Super affair on Girls side with Michelle Gallagher (Sacred Heart Cathedral), Melissa Grelli (Presentation), McKayla Plank (Mitty), and Ciara Viehweg (St. Ignatius) hooking up and finishing in that order 17:06 - 17:25 - 17:40 and 18:10. SI took the Girls team contest 54-68 over SHC - Boys Keven Chaves (St. Francis, Mountain View) 15:26 winner, with very low-scoring St. Francis 28-34 winner over Serra. - Results

Blossom Valley Athletic League - Santa Teresa Division Meet #3 - Alum Park - 2.9 miles - Tesfay Tesfatsion (Gunderson) took the Boys contest here at 15:43, with Valerie Weilert (Leigh) a minute win at 19:08 on the Girls side with the meet scored as a number of duals - Results

Spring Lake League Meet in Santa Rosa - Montgomery Girls flew, with a 23-36 win over Maria Carrillo, with the Kims (Handel 17:47 and Conley 17:59) closely following Maria Carrillo star Amy Robinson (17:39). Montgomery averaged 18:32 for five! - Boys had Montgomery also very strong, with Matt Fitch (Montgomery 15:27) leading a 23-45 win over Newman - Results

Enterprise (Redding) and Pleasant Valley (Chico) - Eastern Athletic League Meet - Northern Section - Enterprise Park - Pleasant Valley nipped the Enterprise Boys 26-29, with Kenny Frank, the sub 1:54 800 star up front with a CR 16:23 run for Enterprise - Janessa Hoppe (Enterprise) also a CR on the Girls' side, with Pleasant Valley another squeaker 27-31 - Classic Dual Meet Running - Results
