68th Annual
Lefebvre Relays -
With the weather Gods on the side of the competition, one of the state's older Track & Field Invitationals at 68th annual, the Lefebvre Invitational at Placer HS in Auburn, had a great group up into the Sac Joaquin Section gold country this past weekend. It is always a fun little trip to head up Highway 80 out of Sacramento and even gain a bit of a historical sense as you get off at Highway 49 into Placer, giving any expedition there a special feel. And with the weekend one of the few in recent weeks with some sunshine, it was up to an excited group of athletes on the track, and there was some great competition. Coach Norman Miller of Franklin in Elk Grove is taking a couple of his special stars on their "farewell tour" locally, with Zuheir Sharif (Texas A&M signee) and Marlon Franklin (UCLA bound) talented seniors who have accomplished a ton and are supported by super male and female squads behind them. With Alex Wilright and junior Robert Colvin ranked statewide also, the Franklin group scored 70 points to take the Varsity Boys competition over the hosts, Placer (52). Sharif scored the day's top mark, a stunning 50-01 Triple Jump as a part of that competition, with the Franklin 4x200 relay (1:30.9) and 4x400 (3:28.9) groups racing to wins, and the Wildcat 4x100 group a close second to Rio Americano 43.5-43.7. The Distance medley relay had Franklin as a prominent part of the act, chasing a good Oak Ridge squad that was 10:47.9 with a 10:52.9 Franklin time and Placer 10:59.9 in third. The host Placer boys added to top action in the field with a super over 13-foot average in the Pole Vault for a combined 40-00 win! The strong Rocklin throws program had a double win in the Shot and Discus, with Rio Americano averaging 6-00 for three High Jumpers in their 18-00 win there. Alex Kosinski (Oak Ridge, El Dorado Hills) led the girls' meet with her impressive 10:50.9 two mile run, with her team ending with the win at 61 points, with St. Francis (Sacramento) 55, and Placer 53 close behind. Kosinski, one of the nation's best, continues to race along to elite national level performances while relatively unpressed. She has had a great close to her last couple of seasons in track and cross-country, so it should be very exciting later this spring when she heads out to face the state and nation's best! Oak Ridge was tough in the field also, with Colleen Lenahan, another of the state's best tossing 42-04 in the Shot Put and 126-06 in the Discus during the day.The Franklin girls squad, led by one of the area's best sprinters, soph Kasey Rodgers, is very strong also, with a blazing 48.5 4x100 relay win (by nearly three seconds), and 1:46.9 4x2 run for the victory! The host school, Placer did take home the Boys JV team trophy, with Grant of Sacramento second there. Link to Results: - Boys Varsity - Girls Varsity - Boys JV
