LeFebvre Relays, 2006

Saturday, March 18th

Placer High School

Dear Coaches:

I hope this letter finds you doing well as the holiday season approaches. I’m sure that you are also busy getting your schedule ready for the upcoming season. As we approach this season I am very excited by the opportunity to carry on one of the great traditions in track and field in the sierra foothill region, the Le Febvre Relays. This meet is the longest continuously running track and field meet in the state of California featuring over 100 volunteers, a great facility and an event staff that keeps the kids first.

I am proud to let you know that we at Placer High will continue to host the fun and exciting LeFebvre Relays. We are scheduling the meet for March 18th, 2006, an early season meet that emphasizes team track. Our beautiful stadium features an all weather track; two vaulting facilities and an in stadium shot put ring. The track and runways are brand new this season having been resurfaced last November.

Our track runs 8 lanes across and we will therefore limit the number of entrants to 28 full teams. We have finished the meet early the last four seasons and turned away several teams by limiting the entrants. Last season we ran 24 teams and finished around three o'clock, there was quite a bit of rain, so we had a few no-shows. The day was fun, fast and exciting. We have invited nearly three hundred teams for this years meet, that's about 150 more than last year. If you are one of the 150 newly invited schools, we hope some of you will join our wonderful tradition. Our shot put has run slow the last couple of years so we are currently under way to remedy this situation by adding another ring, actually a Throws Stadium, and this should be accomplished in time for the meet.

Some Specifics for your consideration;

In the case that an opposing team does not field a group in a given race/event will we allow a second, non-scoring, group for your team to participate, I have ordered additional medals for these athletes if they should place, but they do not score for the team trophy.

The cost for your teams participation will be $225.00. There will be three divisions. Boys varsity, girls varsity, Boys JV. Our experience with other girls junior groups is that there is a great difficulty in filling the entire squad, I apologize for this inconvenience. The first schools with their reservations in will reserve their spots before the second mailing. Please note that you will receive a hard copy of this letter in the next few days for your records. You may e-mail me to secure your spot, send the card back that will be in the mail or simply give me a call. Thank you for your long-standing support of our old fashioned relay meet!

We will medal the first five places, rather than three, in each race in each division. The medals include a full neck ribbon and are very nice and have been especially made for the meet. We will include a large team trophy in each division as well as a second place plaque for the runner up. I look forward to seeing you all. Feel free to e-mail me at any time. All the best!

I truly hope that will give our meet a try I believe you will enjoy the day and the preparation as no on-line work on your part is required. Let us know your coming and we'll do the rest!

Thank you,
