Camarillo Distance Classic
Southern Section

Friday March 17th, 2006
At Camarillo HS

The Camarillo Distance Classic survived dire threats of rain (there was none after 2:30PM) and a three-hour road closure on Highway 1 that kept Cabrillo from getting to the meet on time.

Woodbridge won the girl's DMR showdown with Saugus and Simi Valley in 12:23.

Cabrillo arrived five minutes before the 4x1600 start and we gave them a few minutes (about 12) to warm up and stretch until Coach Peter Anderson said lets go. Their showdown was with La Sierra (both Knight brothers), McFarland
and Torrance (Kent Morikawa). With Michael Coe's 4:15 anchor leg (splits: 60, 64, 65, 66) Cabrillo triumphed.

Christine Babcock of Woodbridge (3:43 DMR 1200) and the amazing Anita Sperry of Simi Valley (5:05 DMR 1600, and, 5:05 4x1600) shared the Athlete of the Meet honors. Michael Coe (4:15 4x1600) and McFarland's Octavio Ruiz (1:57.92
4x800, 3:15.76 DMR 1200, and 4:29.53 4x1600) shared the Athlete of the Meet award on the boys side.

The fun continues tomorrow (March 18th) in the Cam T&F Invite as Jordan Hasay runs the 1600 versus Hannah Huff, Kevyn Murphy and Brooke Russell. Then Jordan will double in the 800. In the boys 3200, the line up gets
crowded with Michael Coe, Ted Price, Ben Sitler, Jake Matthews and Kent Morikawa.
