See the ankle brace? That's gutty Royal HS junior Bryan Rodie (left photo) nailing the top qualifying time in Southern Section Division I prelims after fracturing his ankle while rolling his foot on a misplaced shoe around his house the day before. Said his dad (Scott) in an email to us the day before the race: "Bryan fractured his fibula (the outside process that forms the ankle). The surgeon indicated that the ankle is stable. Bryan is determined to run and is being fitted with a custom prosthetic brace. The doctor indicated he would be in pain, but could run without doing any additional damage. They will see how he feels after they form the brace." Obviously, this kid is tough enough for an event like the 800! He ran 1:54.12 to advance, having already run sub-1:53 this year. Way to tough it out, Bryan!

In photo on right, brothers Brian and Justin Woods give Los Alamitos among the best sprint tandems in the Southland! Both advanced to the SS Division I Finals in the dashes. Thanks to Kirby Lee for the nice photos. More to come! Full results linked below!
