Track Is Back V - West Torrance High School – 3/29/03 (SS)

Robert Nelson (Torrance), a double horizontal jump winner with 22-06 (LJ) and 44-03 (TJ) efforts, and Olga Aulet-Leon (Peninsula, Rolling Hills) a Girls double winner at 2:21.23 (800) and 11:24.6 (3200) were named Athletes of the Meet. The Torrance Boys, bolstered by the 51-05 B SP and 163-10 B DT weight double, were lifted to the Team title there with 141 points over North Torrance's 87. West Torrance 125 took the Girls title over Peninsula with 110. Ana Papadakis (Peninsula, RH) with a G PV of 10-00 broke a meet record, with Allison Sarell (Gahr, Cerritos) a 36-06 G TJ that bettered the old Meet standard.


2003 Reed Sparks Rotary Invitational - 3/28/2003 to 3/29/2003 - at Reed High School, Sparks Nevada - Nevada meet had Calveras HS Boys weight duo of Troy Baker BSP 53-11.5 and Nathan Adams BDT 157-02 take wins, with Devon Jones (Grant, Sacramento) a 21-07.75 LJ winner. BJ Triplett (Mt. Eden, Hayward) was the Girls 100 (12.44) and 200 (25.84) champ, with her team taking the G400 Re at 50.27. Carley Whitney (Calaveras) added a 16-10 for 2nd G LJ.


El Rancho Relays - (Pico Rivera) (SS) - 3/29/03 - Ray Elliott - Rowland Boys take ten events in the relay format. Airrion Moses (Rowland) 43-09.5 TJ and 6-02 HJ for top individual efforts on the field. Katie Black (Downey) 5-02 G HJ.


San Pedro Easter Relays - San Pedro HS - 3/29/03 - Beautiful day in the harbor area, 18 teams participated, mostly from LAUSD and South Bay. - Humberto Rojas (Estancia, Costa Mesa) fine 4:24.38 1600, with Jose Gonzalez (Narbonne, Harbor City) one of the state's Distance sleepers a 4:32.87 there (and 2:02 800 re and 4:30 1600 anchor dist med). Cabrillo, the newest of the Long Beach HS's, was 50.70 in the Girls 400 Relay, with Laura Mickelson (Mira Costa, Manhattan Beach) 5:22.66 in the G 1600, with teammate Jessica Encisco a 35-02 SP winner.


Santa Barbara Easter Relays - March 29, 2003 at Santa Barbara City College - Good meet on a beautiful day! Terrail Lambert, jr at St. Bonaventure (Ventura) B100m 10.76w (+3.12). Carson near sweep of B 4x100 (42.76), 4x200 (1:30.2), with Nevada's Cimarron-Memorial taking the 4x400 over the Colts 3:23.54-3:26.30. El Toro B 4x800 8:15.97, Distance Medley 10:41.4. Josh Lubeek (Royal, Simi) 14-06 PV, with Mark Lewis (Arroyo Grande) weight double 55-06.5 (SP) and 179-05 (DT). Girls' side had Mindy Neely (Dos Pueblos, Goleta) 12.44w (+2.09) 100 win, with Artensia Young (Serra, Gardena) fine double G100H 15.12w (+2.71) and Meet Record TJ 38-07.25 (wind?). Tia Ferguson (San Marcos, Santa Barbara) was 10:26.1 3000m winner, with her team 12:43.87 to take the Distance Medley. Parmount took the G400 (49.67) and G800 Re (1:47.4). Lauren Reid (Rio Mesa, Oxnard) 17-11.5 LJ win (wind?), with Jennifer Kitzmann (Santa Ynez) fine 5-06 GHJ win. Bobbie Patton (Righetti, Santa Maria) fine 42-01.5 Girls Shot win.


Irvine Invitational - 3/29/03 - Irvine High School - Santa Margarita (Rancho SM) Girls, one of the nation's top dual meet squads, and Mission Viejo (Boys) team titlests in this Orange County affair. - Santa Margarita Girls taking event wins all over the place! 100-400-100 H - 300H - 400 Re - HJ on the way to an effective stomping of the field! Caitlin Atkinson (St. Marg) 12.74w (+4.2 mps) 100 win - Emily Kalmbach 57.99 400 victory - Lauren Collins (SM) 14.89w (+2.6) 100H winner, with the 4x100 group 49.13. Annie St. Geme (Corona del Mar, Newport Beach) continues to improve, with the frosh star the 800 winner (2:22.53) and fiine 5:10.93 (1600) win. Cara Walker (Marina, HB) 11-06 Pole Vault win on misses over Megan Jamerson (Santa Marg) (same height), with Melissa Yunghans (Orange Lutheran) fine 43-06 SP. Colaine Gricb (Katella, Anaheim) had a 12.58w (we assume) F/S 100 Girls win, with Kristina Curtis (Tustin) 5-06 G HJ at that level! - Mission Viejo's Boys group was impressive! Raphael McFarlane (MV) 10.97w (+3.0) 100 win, with Marcus Dailey (MV) 22.45 (+1.3) 200 victory, and the 4x400group a 43.24 win by eight meters! Chris Frazier added a 39.13 300mIH win for the Diablo's


Tulare Track & Field Jamboree - Bob Mathias Stadium - Tulare 3/29/03 - Guy Fowler

Monache (Porterville) Boys and Tulare Girls took the team titles here. Boys had Paul Prescott (Porterville) with a Meet Record 13-06 Pole Vault, with the Girls action headed by the Meet Record Horizontal jumps from Mt. Whitney stars, junior Jessica Law 16-11 LJ and Tynisha Smallwood 35-05.5 TJ. Renee Hill of Mt. Whitney added a 35-05 Shot Put win.


Rancho Verde Meet of Champions - 3/29/03 - Boys - Host Rancho Verde took the Boys Large Schools division with 127 points over AB Miller (Fontana) 115. Miller's Kyle Jacobo took the highs at 15.48, with Vinnie Weathers (Serra, SD) 21-07 in the LJ. West Valley (Hemet) took the Boys Small Schools in a great battle with Paloma Valley 138-136. Girls - Girls Large schools meet had Serra (San Diego) 117 to Chaparral (Temecula) 114. Serra took the Girls 400 Relay at 50.38, with Sparkle Anderson 17-10 LJ and 38-07 TJ. Paloma Valley took the Small School Girls with 160.


Brea Rotary Relays - Girls Results - 3/29/03 - Dreaux Valenti - The host school were big Varsity team winners off a series of good efforts. Assume it is Anne Gustafson from Brea 5:20.18 1600m win (no first names on individual events from this meet), with a 9:49.55 4x800 relay winner for Brea. In the field the locals took the Relay Pole Vault, Long Jump, and Triple Jump. Victor Valley (Victorville) had the 100m winner (12.74), 400 winner (60.18), with 50.06 (400 Re), 1:44.62 (800 Re), and 1:53.58 (800 Medley Re) winners. Western (Anaheim) added a 4:07.70 1600m relay win!


DeAnza League Meet #1 Results 3/24/03 - 1st DeAnza League Meet. Invitational style format. Highlights to the meet were Brian Baker (Beaumont) cruising to a 9:49 3200 after winning the 1600 in 4:39 and fininshing 2nd in the 800. Shelese Ruffin cruised to a 58.7 in the 400. A freshman from 29 Palms(Mascato) won the 400 in 50.9.


Corcoran Invitational - Sat 3/29/03 - Corcoran HS - Central Section - Some fine efforts graced this Central Section affair. Excellent marks in the field for Jackson (results list him from Golden West, Visalia but we believe South, Bakersfield) B LJ 23-00.25 (over three foot win!! - second 19-05), Lashay Bagsby (South, Bak) 5-07 Meet Record G HJ, and Jennifer Ward (South, Bak) 42-05 MR G SP. Junior Christina Lopez of Golden West continues her fine season of sprinting, with a 12.2 win over highly regarded Britney Bennett of Centennial. Centennial had A and B Teams in the Girls 400m Re, clocking 50.2 and 50.7. Ryan Moore (Redwood, Visalia) added to the fine section depth in the hurdles with a 39.2 300mIH Large Schools win.
